B) School Building Fund
Carson Street School P and C operate an Australian Tax Office endorsed school building fund. This means that they can accept gifts and donations that are then tax deductible to the donor.
Money from this fund can be used for the acquisition, construction and maintenance of school buildings.
The types of gifts to school building funds that are tax deductible to donors are:
- money gifts of $2 or more
- property purchased during the 12 months before the gift was made
- trading stock disposed of outside the ordinary course of business
- gifts of property valued by the Tax Office at more than $5000 and not purchased during the 12 months before the gifts was made
School Building Funds can be used for:
- painting and general maintenance of school buildings, and building insurance
- expenditure on floor coverings which are fixed to the floor of the school building
- construction or purchase expenses and associated financing costs.
Funds cannot be used for buying furniture, equipment and materials, maintaining sports grounds and car parks, teacher salaries or running expenses of the school.
All donors will be issued with a receipt, which includes the name and ABN of the fund, and states that the receipt is for a gift. This receipt can then be used for submission to the Tax Office.
C) Cycling Like Other Kids - We are continually looking for new and innovative bikes so that
more and more of our students are able to enjoy the joys of cycling.
Thanks to a generous donation from Mr Darryll Ashworth we have
been able to increase the number of special bikes we have for school
and home use. One tricycle we are particularly interested in obtaining
folds up so that it is easy for parents to transport.
D) Remembrance
Garden -
We are currently working on a garden at the front of the school
which will be dedicated to the memory of those children who have
passed away while attending Carson Street. Parents are assisting
in its development.
E) Summer Holiday Program
The administrators of Carson Street School were approached by the
P&C and school council members to devise a programme that would:
- reduce the Financial burden for parents
who are unable to meet the cost of therapy during the 7 week school
holiday break
- to provide an equal opportunity for their
children with a disability to participate in a meaningful holiday
programme like their brothers and sisters
- provide a familiar environment for the children
during the summer holidays where they could maintain their skill
level in specific individual education outcomes
- offer leisure activities at the individual
child’s level
- offer respite, “a rest” to parents
for a portion of the day during the very stressful time of school
holidays
- cater to the specific health and social
requirements of students who would not be accepted into programmes
already available to children without a disability because of
their special needs
- be supervised by staff that knew the requirements
and communication mediums of the students thus diminishing the
“getting to know you” time. (Many students withdraw
when confronted by strangers, thereby gaining nothing from the
valuable experience)
The school is grateful to the Town of Victoria Park and City of
South Perth Councils for their generous annual donations
to the program.
