Mr Ira Morse, with his wife Lillian, first came to the Preolenna District in 1919 and almost immediately commenced a Sunday School and Church Service in their home which continued until late 1924.
On April 21st 1924 the first working bee was held to clear land for the erection of a building. Those present that day were:I. Morse
R. Reeve
S. Haines
L. Boultbee
H. ByardA tender was called for the erection of the building. The successful tender was for 37 pounds 15 shillings and 6 pence from Mr J. Sellers Jnr. The official opening took place late in 1924 with the main speaker being Major Roberts-Thomson of Table Cape.
Sunday School picnics were held in the district on the property of Mr Kaine. Mr Ira Morse collected the children with his bullocks and dray.
The first wedding in the church was on October 25th 1933 between the late Edna (nee Byard) and the late Alan Cox. Other weddings have been: Loris and Jack Donovan, Betty and Terry Broman, Maisie and Bob Williams, Nance and Roy Austin, June and Brian Wilson, Rosie and Barry King, Helen and John Talty, Ann and John Tickell.
Mr Dave Maxwell, with voluntary help, built the baptistry around 1950. Up until this time people were baptised in a nearby creek.A number of people over the years have been commended to fulltime Christian work from the church.
1950 - Roy and Nance Austin. New Guinea
1961 - Es and Val Morse. Outback Aerial Mission, Queensland.
1983 - Rod and Maureen Morse. Christian Radio, Tasmania.
1985 - Tim and Jan Morse. Christian Counselling, Tasmania. In 1976, a special weekend of services was held to celebrate 57 years of Christian witness in the Preolenna District. Services were held in the nearby community centre which was filled to capacity. Meals were in the church along with a large collection of memorabilia. Guest speakers were: Mr Laurie Morse, Mr Les Reeve, Mr Reg Byard, Mr W (Bill) Roberts-Thomson, Mr Es Morse, Mr Rod Morse and Mr Jim Fisher of Brisbane.
Over the years the numbers attending the church has fluctuated, as has the numbers of people living in the district. The little church has seen only a handful to over 100 in attendance.
Over all these years there has been a church member who has taken Religious Education in the local district school.
In 1985 the name was changed from Preolenna Gospel Hall to the Preolenna Christian Fellowship.
In recent years the numbers attending have been very small and the responsibility of the church has been carried by two women: Mrs Kate Humble and Mrs Dorothy Morse.
The Humbles moved to Melbourne in 1992, and Dot Morse moved to Wynyard. It was with a very heavy heart that the decision was made not to continue holding services after Christmas 1993.
On Sunday 12th April, 1994 a final Thanksgiving Service was held in the church. The following was the Order of Service on that day:
