TAMINICK - OCTOBER 2000

 Return to home

Taminick is an annual encampment of re-enactors from the black powder era. Competitions for the best camp, drill (skill at arms) and shooting were hotly contested.  A great weekend hosted by the North Eastern Muzzle Loaders Club (Victoria) and the Shanandoah Crew (ACW). A Range Weekend
The cast assembles for morning parade.
A large Napoleonic contingent (95th, 73rd, 42nd, 40th, and 21eme) - Routiers in the foreground.

During the weekend, Chosen Man Paul and Rifleman Jeff earned green cockades on their shakos for their fine shooting. Rachel won the Ladies' shoot with a score that would likely have won the men's competition as well (oh well, weather conditions must have been easier, possibly, hopefully ......).

The Drill Competition

The judges look seriously professional.
The crowd looks interested - mostly.
Here come the opposition - including the 40th .......
the 42nd with pipes and drums .......
and last year's winners - the Routiers
So bring on the good guys.
A bit of static drill to warm up.
We do our routine - including skirmish tactics ......
And come out as the winners!!

In fact, the competition was tough. The Routiers (2nd), the Blue and Gray (3rd) and the 42nd put on particularly fine displays - the 95th will have to be better next year.

Around the camp
The Rifles camp included 10 riflemen and officers, five ladies and three children - a great turnout but I failed to get a photo of them all! For the record, the 40th Regt won the best camp site competition in another tight contest.

Newly kitted out Riflemen Max and Todd having water bottles painted with their individual numbers.
Part of the 2/95th No.1 Company "street" on a windy morning. NCO tents to the right and (out of picture) left, riflemen down each side, and officers at the rear.
