The most exciting player to come out of the AIS since the 98/99 class. This highly athletic shooting guard is an excellent rebounder and was the dominant go-to player for the AIS and the Aussie Gems. Her dynamic play saw her rewarded as a member of the 2005 U19 World Junior Championship All-Star five. She led the tournament in scoring and top-scored in every game as co-captain of the Gems.
The 2004/05 WNBL Rookie of the Year was forced to sit out the 05/06 season due to an ACL injury sustained whilst with the Opals. She had the hype in 04/05, and she had the game to go with it - her numbers eclipsing Lauren Jackson's already awesome rookie stats.
There will be plenty of interest from WNBL teams. In a couple of years, the WNBA could also beckon. In a trip down to Oz, Connecticut coach Mike Thibault was seen having a lengthy conversation with the young star.

Mikaela Dombkins
Position: Guard/Forward
Born: August 1 1986
Height: 180cm / 5'11"
From: NSW
(We need some help with a headshot)
The Ambassador and captain of the AIS, Dombkins admirably shouldered the leadership role in a very young 05/06 team. On the court she was always active, full of energy and guiding the younger ones; helping them find their spots on the floor. In the minutes she sat to take a breather, the AIS struggled with direction.
Her first season with the AIS was cut short by injury, but since she has shown she is a capable baller with the ability to post points, make plays and rebound. In particular, her performance of 16 rebounds on January 14 2006 against Townsville turned heads. In an AIS uniform, that number has only been cleared by post players - Lauren Jackson and Hollie Grima.

Christina Fox
Position: Guard

Height: 172cm / 5'8"
From: VIC
(We need some help with a headshot)
The 04/05 AIS Ambassador, Fox had a disrupted season only playing 9 games. She's a streaky shooting guard with a flat shot and certainly isn't shy of launching from beyond the arc. The AIS attempted to use Fox as a point guard after Kathleen MacLeod graduated last season, but she is more of a shooter than a playmaker.
She performed well at the 2005 Australian U20 Championships in a strong Victorian team averaging 13 points and nearly 3 assists on 10.3 efficiency. On the 2004 AIS tour of the US, she posted double figure points against the likes of Iowa, Indiana and Ohio.

Melissa Smith
Position: Forward
Born: May 29 1986
Height: 187cm / 6'2"
From: NSW
Over the past two seasons for the AIS, Smith has been one of the more consistent players and has managed to slightly improve her numbers in her second year. In the 04/05 season she didn't take a single shot from three-point territory, but in 05/06 showed she has the range with a 40% clip on selective shooting. Rather foul prone, she fouled out in 5 of the 19 games this season.
Smith is one of four players from NSW graduating from the 'tute. With Sydney Uni the only NSW team, it will be interesting to see where she and the others end up if they all venture into the WNBL.
