2007
LJ on her first game with Samsung - "I don't have a good feel for the game yet ... My teammates are great but there's definitely a problem in communicating even though I have a translator." (Korea Times, Jan 7)
LJ on her WKBL team - "I was looking forward to the communication problem. There's no gossip, we have dinner and have a good time . . . There was respect from the beginning, but when we started playing well, we started to understand each other. From a basketball perspective, my teammates are some of the best people I have ever met." (IHT, Feb 7)
LJ on the expectations of imports - "Many foreigners come here with the weight of the world on her shoulders. They are paid big money and always feel they have to be great. It's not possible, even LeBron James has off days." (IHT, Feb 7)
LJ on standing out in South Korea - "I am blond and 6-foot-5 (1.96 meters), so what do you expect? People do stare. However, I have always been tall and am pretty much oblivious to it. Even if people did say something, I wouldn't understand anyway. Anyway, everybody has been fantastic." (IHT, Feb 7)
LJ on her position - "Where I put my time and energy now is crucial. I want to get involved in the political side of sport rather than the media and I need to learn from the people who have been there before." (Alpha, Jan)
LJ on the WNBA All-Decade team - "That was cool. It was brilliant to be recognised like that in America. It's a tough, emotionally draining lifestyle there but it's fun." (Alpha, Jan)
LJ on LLL - "We have played on five All Star teams together and this year we spole more than we ever have. She's been a great player and was number one in the world and to me that deserves respect. [But] we are definitely not friends or chummy at all. I used to be shy around people who used to intimidate me but I don't get intimidated anymore." (Alpha, Jan)
LJ on the Alpha mag shoot - "I know I'm an athlete but I'm a girl, too, and this stuff is fun. I love getting dressed up. I love getting made up and looking good." (Alpha, Jan)
LJ on the Black+White photos - "They (Samsung) made a significant deal about the fact that I posed nude but it's cool. It was liberating to show off my body, I have worked hard for it. It's rewarding to hear people talking about it." (IHT, Feb 7)
LJ on her worldly travels - "It has definitely become a wonderful life; very different to my first few experiences of living overseas. I want to learn about Russia, so I have enrolled in university here. I also want to be involved in social work when I finish with basketball, and psychology seemed a good way into that. With all the focus on basketball over the years, it's nice to use your brain again." (SMH, May 12)
LJ on her team in the Russian league - "The talent is amazing over here. I was talking with a few people the other day, and we were saying that if we could take this team and put it in the WNBA, we'd probably win it. It's a pretty full-on league. Every game it feels like you're up against a seven-footer. It's pretty tough and fast, but I think it's a lot of fun." (SMH, May 12)
LJ on the Russian experience - "It's completely different to what I'm used to in Australia. For example, we have a doctor on the team, and when we first met, he asked me whether I had left my children at home to come and play in Russia. That's just the way it is here. We have a 22-year-old on our team who has a four-year-old kid, and three other players who are all mothers. I'm not that far removed from feeling like a kid myself. I'm just turning 26; for me that's too young to have kids." (SMH, May 12)
LJ on the Russian experience - "Another interesting experience was our recent road trip to Kursk, which we did on a 60-year-old train. Put it this way, when you flushed the toilet, all you saw was the tracks. Like I said, different. My focus has … definitely changed. Now it's more about the experience and the journey." (SMH, May 12)
LJ on her shift in perspective - "The change in attitude came when I had my last major injury, and I began thinking what I was going to do with life after basketball. It's like that old saying: you're only one injury away from it all being over." (SMH, May 12)
LJ on her first practice session back with Seattle - "I feel a little bit braindead, definitely. That's a good way of putting it. I feel good. I just feel happy that I'm back here and there's a little bit of familiarity." (Storm, May 12)
LJ reflecting on Korea - "Korea was just fun. None of my teammates spoke any English, my coach didn't speak any English. All I had to do was play. It just made me feel so much more confident about my game. I really enjoyed. There was no drama, there was no hassle, there was nothing. It was purely about basketball. It was great. It made me happy over there." (Storm, May 12)
LJ reflecting on Russia - "Then when I went to Russia with the girls, I had a ball. I had the best time of my life in Russia. It capped off a pretty awesome couple of months there. Now I'm here and I feel like this is going to be a pretty good year for the Storm." (Storm, May 12)
LJ on Korea - "I felt like Korea, in particular, really rejuvenated me and my basketball. I found a new love for playing." (Seattle P-I, May 13)
LJ on her first practice session back with Seattle - "The morale level, for midway through training camp, it's not normally like that. "Like today, it just felt different. It felt better - it felt special. I said that when we went into the World Championships with our Australian team. It kind of felt special. We said that right throughout the tournament and we won. So who knows."
LJ on having no one tell her what to do - "It's about bloody time ... I've played (without injury) already for five months. So if that's not telling enough, too bad." (Seattle P-I, May 13)
LJ on her body - "I haven't been injured in six months. Surprisingly, after all of the basketball that I've played, everything has just fallen into place." (Seattle P-I, May 13)
LJ on players staying late in Europe - "Ultimately there has to be some sort of compromise. But the sort of money that you get paid playing overseas is hard to say no to. It's definitely a pain in the bum getting back here late. Anne wants us to be here training with the team, but there's nothing we can do about it." (Seattle Times, May 14)
LJ on rocking up to her birthday celebrations - "Who in the world rents a limo and takes it to the Kangaroo & Kiwi? Who does that but me? We had a riot!" (Seattle Times, May 14)
LJ on 2006 - "The whole season last year, it was just a drag. Every day, I was like, 'Oh, I can't practice today,' or, 'I better go get more X-rays.' Then the plantar fasciitis flared up. I think it got to a point where I was like, 'Do I really want this? Is it worth it? Am I better off just resting the season and playing in Europe?'" (Storm, May 15)
LJ on the game - "It's not fun when you're always dragging around some sort of injury, and for years I was. Now for me it's a lot more fun being out there knowing that I'll be able to walk after the game or I'll be able to practice tomorrow or, if I do something bad, I'll be able to work on it. It's really been a bonus for me." (Storm, May 15)
LJ reflecting on Gold - "I was the captain of the first national team to win a gold medal. That was definitely my best achievement. The WNBA Championship was fantastic, but there's nothing like winning something like that for your country. I can't say that I ever thought it would happen in my lifetime, so I'm pretty happy about that." (Storm, May 15)
LJ on her off-season - "I went home and I spent some quality time with my mum and my dad. Then I did things I've never done before, like I went and traveled with Sue and Diana (Taurasi), which was fun. I've never taken time to look after myself, and I didn't have any injuries, so I didn't feel guilty doing anything. I had a great time. I think that kind of rejuvenated my passion and made me want to go to Korea and definitely get fit and healthy." (Storm, May 15)
LJ on where she's at - "I'm at that age where basketball, for me, it's got to be fun. I've accomplished pretty much everything I could accomplish in this sport other than winning a gold medal in the Olympics, so it's definitely about fun now. A lot more smiles, hopefully." (Storm, May 15)
LJ with a grin on how Seattle's uncertain future will impact the season - "I'm so not allowed to say anything wrong right now. Ultimately what happens, happens. But we're going to focus on this year, we're going to focus on playing."
LJ on Russia - "It was one of the most amazing times of my life in Russia ... We flew a bit to games and we took a private jet everywhere. The owner of the team treated us like gold, we were treated like royalty ... "We had a house with a spa and sauna and pool and lived the life of luxury. It was pretty unbelievable." (Canberra Times, May 19)
LJ on the different leagues - "In Korea and Russia we don't train for three-and-four-hours at a time like we do here in America ... It gets pretty crazy on my body here but we'll just see how it goes ... It's funny because when I was playing over there I was fine, no worries, but now I'm back in America and haven't actually played for a few weeks I'm a bit sore ... But I'll get out there this weekend and I'm sure I'll be fine again." (Canberra Times, May 19)
LJ on if she'll return to the WNBA in 2008 - "I don't know if I'll be back [in America] next season ... Ultimately it comes down to what I think is best for me and my body, and it's pretty much day-to-day still, as its always been with me ... Obviously the Olympics are a huge priority for me next year so I won't plan too far in advance at this stage."
LJ on wearing leggings during practice - "It helps with the recovery a little bit. If I could wear them during the game, I would. But I don't think we're allowed to." (Seattle Times, May 23)
LJ prior to the Storm's games against Phoenix - "I'll probably be laughing the whole game ... I know we're going to be running a lot -- which sucks." (Seattle P-I, May 23)
LJ on the May 25 loss to San Antonio - "I just wasn't there tonight ... I just had a bad game. I didn't feel it, obviously." (Seattle P-I, May 26)
LJ on Anne Donovan - "With Anne I feel there's some sort of understanding now where if I feel I'm starting to get sore, I'm starting to get tired or whatever, I'm just going to say, 'I'm out'". Even if it's one session or one day, it's better than six months. I found with my body, when something starts to get sore, it's always leading to something. Right now, it's maintaining a level where I always feel comfortable and communicating with her." (Seattle Times, June 1)
LJ on Shabtai von Kalmanovic - "He flew Beluga caviar in for breakfas. He's unbelievable. I can safely say no other owner in any other country or even here calls us just to say 'Hi.'" (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on the 2006 WNBA season - "I didn't feel like I was myself because I hadn't been working on my game, and that made me feel worse. There was nothing I could do about it. It was the advice given to [coach Anne Donovan] and to me by the doctors. They wouldn't let me play otherwise. But now, I'm happy and healthy." (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on her Korean experience - "We were just being crazy and that's what made me say, 'I really love this game'. It brought the passion back, and there was no drama." (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on herself - "For so long I've felt like I could get better, and now I feel like I'm able to work on that. I can shoot after practice whenever I want. I'm doing things I haven't been able to do for a very long time. And I'm fit enough to do it." (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on playing at small forward - "Last time I tried it was a complete disaster. It's not something I really want to be doing, but if Anne believes in me, I'll try my hardest ... I feel more comfortable floating. Now I have to learn all the plays again from the three-spot, and I feel like I'm going to mess up a lot. But I believe I'm better than I was in 2005 and have more confidence in myself." (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on herself - "I'm in a really good place emotionally right now. It isn't just because of basketball. All of the pieces have fallen into place." (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on being able to train - “It’s good to be able to know that when I get into the game, I have been running, I have been working out. Whereas last year I never knew how I was going to feel because I hadn’t trained.” (The News Tribune, June 2)
LJ on Korea - “Korea in particular just rejuvenated me. All I had to do was just play, and it made me feel so much more confident about my game. I really enjoyed it – there was no drama, there was no hassle, it was just purely about basketball and that was great. It made me happy over there.” (The News Tribune, June 2)
LJ on the June 2 loss to San Antonio waiting for Donovan's postgame team meeting - “I’m 26 years old and I still feel like I’m 12 years old every now and then (waiting to get in trouble). It’s frustrating, but we need to get it together. The inconsistency has been happening a couple of times for the last couple of years. We just need to get better.” (The News Tribune, June 3)
LJ on the June 2 loss - “I knew we were down at halftime, but it didn’t feel like they were whomping us until the fourth quarter. “Crossley starts hitting a few 3s, and we had nothing to combat it. That’s when our heads have got to kick in – we know what we need to do, we know we’re good – we just need to show it.” (The News Tribune, June 3)
LJ on the June 2 loss - "It's three years of the same stuff. I don't have any answers. The inconsistency has happened a couple of times the last couple of years. It's still early in the season, and we're trying to get better." (Seattle Times, June 3)
LJ on if she'll start in her first game back after illness - "Heck yeah - I better." (StormTracker, June 8)
LJ on her first game back after illness - "I didn't know what to expect. As soon as the first shot went in I was like, 'What? OK, keep shooting 'cause it might just be one of those days.' It felt good out there." (Seattle Times, June 10)
LJ on being called for a tech foul after tangling with Sutton-Brown - "There was no malice involved. We both got tangled up on a rebound, and he called a tech and I'll dispute it, obviously. I don't really care that I got the technical foul, but ultimately, this is the first time he's [officiated] our team — why would he [do that]? He doesn't even know us ... I'm not fighting with her or intentionally trying to hurt her. I've played against her for seven years. It was a silly call." (Seattle Times, June 14)
LJ on the Storm after the loss to Indiana - "If I was any other coach on any other team, I'd say, 'Play zone. They can't play against it.'" (Seattle Times, June 14)
LJ on thinking the Storm had 9 points instead of 4 in a quarter - "I was like, 'Oh my god, that's insane. But no, I didn't realize that at all."
LJ on her father - "I don't think it was until I was a lot older that I realised just how important he was to me and how good both of my parents were in protecting me and not making me feel too special, but making me feel like I could be someone and I think I'm very lucky to have the father I have." (Seattle Storm, June 15)
LJ on the Comets - "It was a football match out there for a minute ... Physically, they're a great team. They're tough and strong and are going to start piling up the wins when they're at full strength. It's just been a tough year for them." (Seattle Times, June 16)
LJ on hitting 30 against the Comets - "I was just in my own world, doing my own thing. I don't even know what I was thinking."
LJ on racking up tech fouls - "I have not sworn at one referee, just so we get this straight. I just said, 'Mate, she [Burse] can't get through. How are you going to call a foul on that?' It's pretty funny. To me, it's just stupid. It's hilarious. It's ridiculous. I think they've got certain people in their minds that they're going to tech and make examples of and obviously Diana has already been one and I think I'm definitely the other from what I can see." (Seattle Times, June 20)
LJ on Detroit - "They just walk out on the court and everyone goes 'ooh-ahh,' we need to get that. Honestly, if I could say I wanted this team to be like one team in the league, I would say Detroit." (Seattle Times, June 20)
LJ on Seattle's form - "It's fun, but it's funny how we go from one extreme to the other. I think that's the inconsistency I've been talking about. But hopefully we stay on this roll because honestly this is what we should be doing every game." (Seattle Times, June 27)
LJ on Seattle's adversity - "Losing is frustrating and it stirs up a lot of stuff, but winning just makes everything better again. Everyone has been amazing. Betty\is doing all of the little things, all the hustle plays. She's a bit of a rock out there. I don't think I could do what I'm able to do without Sue and Betty. Everyone is stepping into their role." (Seattle Times, June 27)
LJ on herself - "Normally when I start off well, I sort of end up doing things better. "I don't know what causes me to have good games and bad games, but I've been having a couple good games." (Seattle P-I, June 27)
LJ on Izi Marques' 24-pt haul v New York - "I was calling her my little Brazilian lightning. Izi was great. If we play like that, as a team, no one can stop us." (Seattle Times, June 2)
LJ on her performance against New York - "I think I just played lethargic today, like I was tired." (Seattle P-I, June 2)
LJ on if Penny Taylor will make the All-Star team - "She'll make it for sure. "She was World Championship MVP. Soon people are going to realise she has to be put in that upper echelon of players. She's legendary." (Seattle Times, July 8)
LJ on the July 7 loss to San Antonio - "In the first half we just let them run all over us. Their intensity flustered us. In the post it was impossible to get the ball. There was a blanket over me. It was one of those games where I had to try to make my own baskets, and when you're not hitting ... maybe I should just work on my jump shot." (Seattle Times, July 8)
LJ on the lack of touches in the post - "I guess it's something the coaches are going to have to work on because I'm not getting shots under the basket at all. I was getting mad and just throwing it up there and some of them went in. Izi obviously had a great game (July 10 v LA) and we played unbelievable defense." (Seattle Times, July 11)
LJ on playing without Sue - "We didn't know what to expect playing without Sue. Things are just feeling good and honestly when she comes back, she'll be stepping into a different team. Hopefully we just continue that with Sue being 100 percent better." (Seattle Times, July 11)
LJ on Sue - "Sue is the best point guard in America, hands down." (Seattle P-I, July 11)
LJ on her minutes - "I feel like I need to be out there in terms of conditioning and everything like that. "I'm not going to lie about that. I want to be out there and I've made that clear." (Seattle Times, July 11)
LJ on being healthy - "It's awesome. I'm fit and healthy and it's like I'm 18 years old again ... When you're 18, you take it all for granted. This year has just been a godsend for me ... I'm being able to enjoy the game again." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on her injuries - "As soon as I made the decision to play through (the pain), it miraculously disappeared ... I had it for a few years and it never got worse or better. But it feels far better now." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on playing in Korea - "They treated me like a princess ... I had everything at my beck and call and I never went to the market once in three months. It was just totally more than I ever expected." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on Shabtai von Kalmanovic in Russia - "We called him our Russian poppa. He took such good care of us. It was just unbelievable. He would give us gifts and we would go to the best restaurants. He treated us like his daughters." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on her career so far - "It's gone extremely quickly. I can't imagine how quick the next seven years will go." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on maybe sitting out the 2008 WNBA season - "I haven't made a commitment either way yet, but I have to make a decision soon. It's definitely in the back of my mind. It's going to be a business decision and what's right for me ... I want to win a gold medal with the Opals. I'd love to help lead my team with Penny and that's something I'm going to have to consider ... I'll talk to some people here and at home and find out what's going to be best." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on the Storm's possibly move to OKC - "It's been my life playing (in Seattle) for the last seven years and it's a tough decision. Seattle always seems like home and I want to play out my career here. I don't want to go anywhere else ... There are some teams I'd like to play for, but I can't say I'd like to go to the east coast or Oklahoma City." (Herald Sun, July 13)
LJ on the All-Star event - "I haven't played [the All-Star Game] without Sue since my rookie year. It's not going to be as fun, definitely. Maybe I won't party as much." (Seattle Times, July 14)
LJ on the All-Star Game - "The whole season is so much pressure. This game for me is fun. That's how I approach it every year, and I'm not going to feel bad if I play like crap." (Seattle Times, July 15)
LJ on her shins - "I still have days, but as long as the fractures aren't getting any worse, I'm not going to let them hold me back anymore. After last season I decided I was either going to play all out in the off-season or not at all. A little practice here, a little practice there was driving me crazy. I couldn't get in a groove." (SI, July 17)
LJ on her house with Bird and DT in Russia - "This house had everything you could ever imagine -- a pool, a spa, five bathrooms, an enormous living room. Then you go to the window and it's overlooking a nuclear power plant. It was so Russian. It was awesome." (SI, July 17)
LJ on dropping 20lbs prior to the WNBA season - "I had always felt a step slow in the pas. "Now my rebounding is better, my defense is better. A lot of things are better." (SI, July 17)
LJ on the uncertainty of Seattle's future - "I want to stay here. The thought of not having a team here, or not being able to end my WNBA career here, is really sad. It definitely weighs on my head because I know this could be my last year in the league ... but it's hard to pick and choose where you go in this league." (SI, July 17)
LJ on her 47-point haul - "If we had won, I probably would go out until 6 o'clock in the morning and celebrate, definitely. But I am going home." (Seattle P-I, July 25)
LJ on finishing a long road trip with a 47-point haul - "I need to get home. I'm tired. It's been a long month. I need to get centered again and try to help the team figure out what we're going to do to try to win games." (Seattle Times, July 25)
LJ on being 14pts shy of the 4000 mark - "Hopefully it happens [today], but you never know with me. I feel very honored to be up there and be in the same echelon of those players is pretty cool." (Seattle Times, July 27)
LJ on Donovan saying she'll be the best of all time - "She's crazy, she has to say that, she's my coach. I don't know about that. It's flattering." (Seattle Times, July 27)
LJ on herself - "I've never really gone by anyone else's rules. I've just lived my life and tried to be the best person I can be. Some people don't like that; some people do like that. But to me, it just makes it easier to live life." (ESPN, July 27)
LJ on reaching 4000 career points - "It was a relief. There was such a big deal made about it, I was kind of nervous before the game." (Seattle Times, July 28)
LJ on her body after picking up the knee and groin injuries - "I feel injured, but other than that I feel fine. I'm going to pull out if it gets worse. It would be pretty stupid right now to try to play through something that could potentially keep me out for weeks." (Seattle Times, Aug 5)
LJ on the passing of her grandmother - "I would rather be at home, obviously. It's very similar since this has happened before, but with all the traveling and everything, I just feel like it's been a really hard week emotionally. I'm just glad we made the playoffs. Maybe if we would have won more games when I was away I would have stayed [in Sydney] longer, but it's OK. I'm going to rest for a couple of days." (Seattle Times, Aug 12)
LJ on the passing of her grandmother - "Everyday she deteriorated, so I knew I had to go home and say goodbye. My Dad was worried about how I would be taking it. I've been through it before and it's no easier. I've been really fortunate that I've got some really good friends here." (Seattle Times, Aug 12)
LJ on the Aug 14 game v Minnesota - "We played like doo-doo but we won. I don't know. It definitely wasn't the way we want to win a game, but it was a win nevertheless." (Seattle P-I, Aug 15)
LJ on the Aug 14 game v Minnesota - "At the end, when two people make a three and you're like, 'Oh my God, I made a shot!' that's when you know it's a bad game." (Seattle Times, Aug 15)
LJ on herself after the trip back home - "I don't feel like I'm back to myself whatsoever. I just need to get out there." (Seattle Times, Aug 15)
LJ on Aubrey McClendon's comment - "It's a shame for him to say something like that. Especially when we're at the end of our season and making a run. But right from the beginning Bennett and the other owners have been really supportive of the Storm and keeping the teams here. What's one guy? I don't even really know who he is." (Seattle Times, Aug 15)
LJ going into the Playoffs - “We’re going out to win for the people who have supported us, for our fans. Our fans have been unbelievable; we’ve just got some of the most loyal people in the world supporting us. For now, it’s for our team.” (The News Tribune, Aug 22)
LJ on the Storm's status in Seattle - "There's 90 percent of me that keeps saying that the team is going to stay here. I don't know what it is, if it's intuition or what. But it's that 10 percent, the things you read in the papers. It's everything that's going on and what people are saying ... It's that 10 percent where all of my emotions and my feeling get caught up, instead of looking on the positive side and thinking about what could potentially happen to keep the team here. But that's just who I am." (Seattle Times, Aug 24)
LJ on being named Defensive Player of the Year - "A huge honour. I've never won a defensive award in my life." (AP, Aug 24)
LJ on Phoenix' defense in Game 1 - "If that's the way that they want to play -- they want to annoy me and get under my skin -- it's a pretty good tactic. It gets under my skin because I laugh (at Taurasi) the whole time. It seems to work." (Seattle P-I, Aug 25)
LJ on Game 1 - "Friday was pretty much our season. There were great moments and then there were bad ones. You never know what team is going to show up. We need to make the extra pass because you never know how it's going to open up the rest of the floor. We don't think enough. We're not smart enough offensively." (Seattle Times, Aug 26)
LJ before Game 2 - "I won't be disappointed if we don't win, I'll be furious. Only because it could very well be my last season here and we put in a lot of hard work this year." (Seattle Times, Aug 26)
LJ on her foul trouble in Game 2 - "I feel like they knew I had five fouls, they weren't going to call another foul on me anyway," she said. "I mean, unfortunately that's the way it goes. It's kind of funny, really. It's really funny, and you watch the tape and it's ridiculous. That's my only gripe." (Seattle P-I, Aug 27)
LJ after Game 2 - "I gave it everything I could this year. I didn't leave anything out there. I've got no regrets personally. I wish the team had done better, but I did everything I could, so I can't be too stressed about it." (Seattle P-I, Aug 27)

LJ on being named MVP - "I feel honoured with this award in a year I was finally fit and stayed healthy ... There are truly some unbelievable players in this league like Becky Hammon and Diana Taurasi in what is the best competition in the world." (AAP, Sep 7)
LJ on being named MVP - "I'm honoured and flattered and it has been an unbelievable year for me personally." (AAP, Sep 7)
LJ after her MVP season - “I hope I can play better basketball. I think I can improve everywhere. I think this year was about getting through the injuries and getting fit and healthy. Now it’s just maintaining a level of fitness and improving my shooting, agility, things like that. There’s so much more that I can achieve. (Border Mail, Sep 19)

LJ on her MVP season - "This (win) one was great. You know our team (Seattle Storm) didn't do so well this year, actually for the last three years we have been a bit mediocre...I would obviously rather win with the team because you want to be successful with your team, but this is a close runner up so I'm pretty happy with it." (ABC Goulburn Murray, Sep 19)

Being away from home so much, it just makes a difference being able to get back here and see the people I love more than anyone and even my dog, it's nice to be home." (ABC Goulburn Murray, Sep 19)
LJ on being a competitor - "You pride yourself on sport and playing everyday is second nature. It is something I love doing obviously and I think the actual part after you lose or win a match you have to stop and go 'what do I do with myself now?' I think that's probably the hardest thing for me." (ABC Goulburn Murray, Sep 19)
LJ on the year ahead - "I'll just be back in Seattle probably. What I want to do is get a couple of weeks off and be able to tour with the Australian team ... I don't think it will be a problem if I go back there and commit to the Storm and then also commit to the Opals." (The Age, Oct 19)

LJ on the WNBL - "Being back here definitely makes me want to be back in Australia playing in the WNBL again, for sure — I just love the atmosphere ... Three or four years, I imagine; honestly, I probably shouldn't give a time frame because I really don't know," Jackson said. "I just want to make my money and get set for the future. We probably only play until we are 35 or so." (The Age, Oct 19)
LJ on the thought of giving up the game - "When I had the stress fractures in my leg, I got to a point where I was thinking I didn't want to do it anymore. (Canberra Times, Sep 7)
Gary Jackson on LJ's WNBA season - "I think what she's done this year in the league, she's stamped herself as not just one of the best, but the best in the world in the sport. If she keeps playing without pain and enjoying it, I can't see why she wouldn't keep doing it." (Canberra Times, Sep 7)

Anne Donovan on LJ's physique - "She looks so mobile. She looks quicker than last year, which it's hard to believe she can be. I think that comes because she's better - she's always getting better - but probably because she's lighter as well." (Storm, May 12)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "If the doctors tell me she is good to go and Lauren is saying she's good to go, then she's good to go." (Seattle P-I, May 13)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "It is hard to imagine she can keep getting better and yet it's not a surprise that she does keep getting better because she works hard at her game, she never takes a rest at all. She's constantly working at improvement. The fact that her body is slimmer and she's feeling healthy ... she's got some good basketball in front of her." (Storm, May 15)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "If you think about last summer, she didn't practice at all. Compared to last year, this is phenomenal. She's lighter and feels good. From a mental standpoint, she has said this is the best she has been in her career. And I'm not even thinking about who needs to play, where last year it was a need-based substitution pattern because of Lauren." (Seattle Times, June 1)
Anne Donovan on LJ -" Lauren healthy is a wonderful thing – I don’t think I’ve seen that or coached that yet, so I look forward to that. It’s hard to imagine that she can keep getting better, and yet it’s not a surprise that she does keep getting better because she works hard at her game, she never takes a rest at all, she’s constantly working on improvement." (The News Tribune, June 2)
Anne Donovan on LJ after the win against LA - "Besides her attack from the three-point line, there were three drives in particular where she took the ball off the dribble and got to the rim that were just incredible. Spectacular things - not just from the three-point line, not just with her back to the basket." (Storm, June 26)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "Lauren played well and when she plays well we're very difficult to guard." (AP, June 27)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "She's not someone I want to play 38 minutes. Thirty-six, OK. But when it gets to be more than that, she gets tired because she doesn't know how to pace herself. She plays so dang hard." (Seattle P-I, July 25)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "She is going to be the best player of all time by the time she leaves the game."
Anne Donovan on LJ - "Lauren to me, and I've always said this about her, her mental capacity to withstand contact and play through contact just is amazing. It's like no player I've seen before." (ESPN, July 27)
Anne Donovan on LJ - "She lost weight this offseason. She's really trimmed up, slimmed down, and I would imagine that has something to do with how light she is on her feet. But it definitely has given her a quicker first step, given her the ability to take the ball off the dribble a whole lot more than she did before. And the beauty of it is, she hasn't lost any of her strength inside." (ESPN, July 27)
Anne Donovan on there being any question that LJ is the MVP - "None. There was no question before our last game." (Seattle Storm, July 27)
Anne Donovan on LJ after reaching 4000 - "Lauren is completely dominating. It's on both ends of the floor and it hasn't been in the past. She's always been very efficient offensively, and defensively she's been a good player and this year she's become a great player." (Seattle Times, July 28)
Anne Donovan on the Storm playing without LJ - "Although I knew we would struggle offensively without Lauren, I don't think I recognized how much the impact would be to play defense without her." (Seattle P-I, Aug 14)
Anne Donovan on LJ for MVP - "There can't be anybody who doesn't vote for Lauren. It's a ridiculous vote if you put it somewhere else." (Seattle Times, Aug 14)
Anne Donovan on LJ as MVP - "I think it's so tremendous to have a player like Lauren who's had an outstanding career, already been an MVP in 2003, rededicate herself in the off-season - come back more focused, leaner, meaner, hungrier, better - and get recognized. It's really nice to see someone's hard work be paid off in that kind of an award." (Seattle Storm, Sep 25)
Sue Bird on LJ feeling good - "She's showing it. She just feels really good about where she is. Whether it was Korea and how she played there or Russia, both on and off the court, we had a really good team. It's always nice to have a positive outlook coming into a new season." (Storm, May 12)
Sue Bird joking on what she could have done to help LJ - "Donate my shins?" (Storm, May 15)
Sue Bird on LJ - "You can see it in her face - she's really happy ... Lauren's a professional. Injuries, for everybody, are a frustrating thing, but Lauren never let on. She played like she was 100% healthy - probably the hardest worker on the floor at all times. You never really knew that she was as hurt as she was. But I think when you look at her face now, you can see how healthy she is. Hopefully, it will stay that way the rest of the season." (Storm, May 15)
Sue Bird on LJ - “For the last couple of years, I think it’s been hard – the injuries. To be an MVP candidate and average less than 30 minutes, I’d like to see somebody else who did that. So for her, this year knowing she can come in and play and have fun, I think she’s really excited. You can see it – you can see it in her face, she’s really happy.” (The News Tribune, June 2)
Sue Bird on LJ's collision with Abrosimova - "She doesn't let any sickness or injury bother her. Getting hit in the chin, she's going to downplay that but she was a little wobbly when she got up. But she doesn't let anything stop her. She's just very mentally tough." (Seattle P-I, June 10)

Carrie Graf on the Flames prior to the major semi - "They deserve the favourite tag, they are the favourite, let's see if they can handle being favourite, they've been the collywobbles in a lot of contests - they've been in five championship games in the past seven years and lost all of those." (Canberra Times, Jan 31)
Carrie Graf prior to the Championship game - "Suggesting that a championship or a team is more special than another is like saying you've got a favourite child of your 10 kids - I think it's a load of shit." (AAP, Feb 16)
Carrie Graf on the post-LJ Caps - "Lauren was a huge part of our program here and a big part of our success no doubt, but there were a lot of factors for our success." (AAP, Feb 16)

Carrie Graf on LJ - "If she stays fit and injury-free, Loz has a good 10 years left in her yet. I mean she is only 26 after all and the bigs always last longer ... She's got her burning desire for the game back and she's enjoying what she's doing again, which is fantastic to see. She loves the game, she's a natural competitor, she's matured as a basketballer and she's got a long way to go." (Canberra Times, May 19)
Erin Phillips on Adelaide trying to lure LJ - "You can put in a couple of good words but at the end of the day she'll make the decision based on what she wants to do and what's best for her. Lauren's a very independent person. She'll make a decision based on where she's comfortable playing. I'd be very happy if she came over but I'm not going to cross anything, put it that way." (The Advertiser, May 8)
Erin Phillips on LJ's decisions - "It just depends where Lauren's mindset is at. She just loves to compete."
Kellie Abrams on a sans-LJ Caps - "Definitely, this team has had to go through and create a new identity, as such, without Lauren Jackson and a lot of emphasis was put on at the start of the season that we weren't going to be there without Lauren . . . It was really important for us to be able to create a new identity and certainly it'll mean a lot to win it without Lauren." (Canberra Times, Feb 12)
Laurent Buffard, New UMMC coach, on trying to recruit LJ - "Ekaterinburg are offering me limitless funds for recruitment ... Lauren Jackson is one of the possibilities, for example. If she doesn't come, it will not be because of financial reasons." (FIBA Europe, Feb 21)
Natalia Hejkova (Spartak head coach) on LJ's first game - "Jackson put in a good performance in her debut and that tells you about her class. However, every player needs time to get used to a new team. She needs to have more training with us and establish better relationships with her new team-mates. I hope she can adapt quickly so she can help Spartak in the play-offs a great deal." (FIBA, Apr 24)
DeLisha Milton-Jones on LJ - "She is a guard in a post player’s body, and she’s capable of doing anything and everything out there on the basketball court.” (Examiner, July 25)
DeLisha Milton-Jones on LJ - "You just got to give it to the girl. It's more impressive to me knowing they just came off of a [eight-day] road trip and this was the last game. She should be leg weary at this point. But she comes out and almost gives us 50. Wow! That's MVP-type numbers." (Seattle Times, July 25)
DeLisha Milton-Jones on LJ dropping 47 on her - "Tamika Catchings never did anything like that to me on any given night." (Seattle Times, July 25)
Doris Burke on LJ - " Lauren is the best player in the world right now and without her, Seattle would be in a world of trouble." (WNBA, Aug 10)
Doris Burke on LJ - "Lauren Jackson has had what I believe is the best individual season I've seen in the history of the WNBA. Doris Burke on LJ as her choice for Defensive Player - "I don't think Seattle is a great defensive team; they get beat a lot off the dribble. But everything that it takes to be a great help defender, Lauren possesses." (USA Today, Aug 23)

Adia Barnes on LJ playing at small forward - "Lauren is going to have a huge advantage because there's no three that can guard her. Before it was hard for her, but she can handle it now. It's just repetition. And she already does things that threes do, she just doesn't realise it." (Seattle Times, June 2)
Adrienne Goodson on Timmsy and Bronds - "Those Aussie divas can play some ball and the league will surely open up the door for many more just like ‘em." (SLAM Online, July 17)
Alana Beard on LJ - "Lauren is probably going to end her career as the best player that will ever come through the WNBA. She's tremendous. But you know what? I came in the locker room and everybody was like, 'Lauren Jackson scored 47.' I was like, 'Yeah, 47 and an 'L.' I'll take that any day." (Seattle Times, July 25)
Andrew Gaze on LJ - "It's mind-boggling. Here is a girl who grew up in Albury-Wodonga dominating on court like Michael Jordan in the country where basketball was invented ... It's not just her being tall, very athletic and mobile, it's the competitive, ruthless streak on the court that is Jordan-like." (Courier Mail, Sep 8)
Andrew Gaze on LJ - "I could be quite biased but I think Lauren is well and truly in the Dawn Fraser, Margaret Court, Susie O'Neill league. All that differs is probably the awareness level because she's doing it over there." (Courier Mail, Sep 8)
Andrew Gaze on LJ now being the best Aussie basketball product - "It's not really even close. Lauren's freakish and with that recognition around the world." (Courier Mail, Sep 8)
Andrew Gaze on comparing LJ to Michael Jordan - "I don't think it's
flippant at all to suggest that. I would say there
are certainly reasonable parallels that you can draw between the
great man and what Lauren is doing.
Given the exposure and marketing
of women's sport in general, you are never going to get the same
sort of adulation as Michael Jordan or another male athlete playing
in the NBA." (SMH, Nov 16)
Andrew Gaze on comparing LJ to Michael Jordan - "From a basketball sense, in what [Jackson] is producing on the court on a regular basis, it's not something outrageous to say. It does make sense. Don't forget, you are talking about Lauren doing this in the most participated sport in the world. It is something that is truly remarkable. When you consider … where she has come from and what she has been able to achieve, it's a remarkable story." (SMH, Nov 16)
Andrew Gaze on LJ - "She gets a lot of accolades here, but if people had a true understanding of the magnitude of what she is doing on the global stage, just with the sheer weight of numbers and participants that play the game, and to be recognised at the status she is, that is truly amazing." (SMH, Nov 16)
Andrew Gze on LJ belonging with the likes of Dawn Fraser, Marjorie Jackson and Margaret Court - "I think she should be held in the same lofty position as those other women. Given that a lot of her work is done internationally, and we don't see much of her here, I don't think people here give her the recognition she deserves. She certainly deserves to be recognised in that same ilk. I don't know if that's going to happen, but there is no question her achievements are as good as some of those others." (SMH, Nov 16)

Betty Lennox on LJ losing her grandmother and the win against Washington - "LJ is going through a lot and I've been through what she's going through and it's not a good feeling. She's a gutsy player and I told her, 'I'm going to pick up your slack' because I know she's tired. I just thank her for her presence on the court because it makes such a difference. She came out and did well and we appreciate her even going out on the court with us." (Seattle Times, Aug 12)
Bo Overton, Sky head coach, on LJ - "Lauren Jackson is not a prototype, she's a freak. She's a post player with a guard's body control and skill, who can shoot the three, drive and handle the ball. There's no one like her." (SI, July 17)
Brian Agler, SASS assistant coach, on LJ - "Lauren Jackson has got to be the best player in the world." (Seattle P-I, July 30)
Brian Winters, Fever head coach, on LJ - "She's going to pass a lot of records before she's done," Winters said. "She's a terrific player and scores from everywhere — inside, outside, all different ways. Obviously she's one of the top players in the world, if not the top player." (Seattle Times, July 28)
Brian Winters, Fever head coach, on LJ - "She's hard to guard because she plays a power forward position and can take slower players out on the floor. If you put a smaller person on her she can take them inside and post her. She's highly skilled and highly talented. And I think she's probably in the best condition I've ever seen her in. She's terrific." (Seattle Times, July 28)
Candice Dupree on LJ - "She's probably the best post player in the world. The best that we could've done is try and double team as much as possible, be physical with her and try to frustrate her. She still had 30-plus." (AP, June 27)

Diana Taurasi on defending LJ in Game 1- "Tonight we did a good job of doubling, tripling, quadruple, I don't know how to say it with five ... but it was just a tough defensive effort by the whole team." (Seattle P-I, Aug 25)
Don Zierdon if the book 'Facing Your Giants' was a guide on defending LJ - "If it was, I'd have it memorized, I'll tell you that. She's quite a player. This is my first time really taking a good hard look at her and she's quite a talented player." (Seattle Times, June 10)

One of Donna Orender's Christmas wishes - "The ability to comprehend what a truly remarkable player Lauren Jackson is. And the ability to comprehend how the Opals -- LJ, Penny, Tully, Belinda and Erin -- pull off wearing those spandex uniforms." (WNBA, Dec 4)
Janell Burse on LA defending LJ - "What were they kind of thinking putting just one person on Lauren, especially on the block? It was weird, but if they're going to do stuff like that, we're going to exploit it." (Seattle Times, June 25)
Geeta Anne Jose, Indian National player, on LJ - "I was watching Lauren, the world's best player, very closely when we played Australia. She played for just 20 minutes but she was the top scorer by a big margin. She was stunning, doing everything ... picking up rebounds, running, shooting from outside. I didn't know one player could do so much." (Sportstar Weekly, June 30)
Jayda Evan's midseason awards - "MVP: Storm F Lauren Jackson. I know there's talk about Tamika Catchings, and she's an incredible player who plays beautiful team ball, but Jackson is the best player in this league, period." (Seattle Times, July 9)

Jenny Whittle reflecting on her career - "I was with the Opals when Lauren (Jackson) came in as a rookie, and to see her develop over the years has been pretty awesome ... She is the captain now and she has turned into such a great leader and a good friend, too, so I'll really miss playing with her."
Joey Wright on LJ - "I always say that, per capita, Australia has better female basketballers than the US because they are more durable, tougher and there's Lauren Jackson ... Purely as a shooter, with no defence on her, she'd be better than some in the NBL." (Courier Mail, Sep 8)
Kara Lawson on LJ - "I've never seen anyone play like Lauren has been playing. You turn into a fan because she is so good." (Sac Bee, July 31)
Karen Bryant on LJ as MVP - "It's just testimony that although she's often recognized as the best even prior this year that she still has new heights to her game and being healthy. She's talked a lot about, in the off-season, having fun with the game again - her experience in Korea and Russia. Clearly she came into camp with that kind of mentality. She's just such a source of pride for our organization and our town. It's really nice that, in a season that had its share of ups and downs, there's no question that's a bright spot - her performance on the floor and just utter domination this year." (Seattle Storm, Sep 25)

Mike Thibault on LJ - "She's playing as well as she's every played and that's saying something considering she's already been the MVP. She's 6-5 and strong but she can run, she can shoot the 3 (41.8 percent), she blocks shots. She's playing like the best player in the world right now." (Norwich Bulletin, July 11)
Nat Porter on Donna Loffhagen prior to the major semi - "Basically that's her role, to be a thug. She's known for that. That's also her role for New Zealand." (Daily Telegraph, Feb 2)

Paul Westhead on Penny Taylor awaiting All-Star selection - "Let the obvious become apparent." (Arizona Republic, July 8)
Penny Taylor on the WNBA - “It’s important for the WNBA to expose women athletes to the world because the younger generation of females need to have someone to look up to, someone to admire. Growing up in Australia I admired Michael Jordan and other NBA players but when the WNBA came around I was able to watch Michelle Timms and Sandy Brondello. That was a big moment in my life. The moment when I realized that I could actually get where they were. Little girls need that.” (SLAM Online, July 17)
Sandy Brondello on LJ - "She's matured and is in the best shape of her career. She's always wanted to be the best player, and I think she knows that she's the best player. She handles that pressure quite well. I've always admired that competitive nature. Not all players are like that, but Lauren likes to put everything on her shoulders." (Seattle Times, Aug 14)

Susie O'Neill on LJ - "For an Australian to be the best in the world at basketball is pretty awesome but it's her longevity at the top which sticks in people's minds as the measure ... Tanisha Wright on LJ - "Since I've been here as a rookie [in 2005], Lauren continues to amaze me. She just does things that people just physically can't do at times. She's the best player in the league, there's no doubt about that, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that she's doing the things she does. She just comes out and plays hard every night."
