Jenni Screen Saturday, November 13, 2004. ourWNBL.com was run by Shawn and Misch, but is now defunct. The Adelaide Lightning's Jenni Screen was named ourWNBL.com's Player of the Week for Round 7. Her outstanding performance against Perth included 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a rare triple double. ourWNBL.com caught up with Jenni a day after her magnificent game. |
| ______________ | ______________ |
| ourWNBL.com: | First off, congratulations on your incredible game last night. You, of course, had a triple double with an efficiency rating of 33. |
| Jenni: | I did not even realise that I was close to a triple double,
I just wanted to win!! It is a pretty awesome feat and one I
will remember for a long time as they don't come around that
often! If only we could play like that every week! [Hehehe] |
| ourWNBL.com: | Now, I want to be sure I get this right. Is it Jenni or Jennifer? |
| Jenni: | Either, or. It really doesn't matter. If you were to ask my mother especially when I'm in trouble it is Jennifer, but my father prefers Jenni and well my friends call me Screeny, so take your pick! |
| ourWNBL.com: | How has the Lightning coaching transition been? From Jan Stirling to Chris Lucas? |
| Jenni: | Both Jan and Chris are similar in the fact that they both are
very dedicated individuals that want the best from their players.
You can never replace a Jan Stirling. She is an impeccable woman,
but in saying that Chris is finding the transition pretty good
as are the players. |
| ourWNBL.com: | So far this season, which WNBL team has impressed you the most? |
| Jenni: | Sydney and Dandenong are always going to be tough but Bulleen, I think are probably the stand outs so far! Which is good for them as players as well as their club. |
| ourWNBL.com: | Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions? |
| Jenni: | I don't know if you call it a superstition, but before every game I shower and this may sound strange, but I also brush my teeth!! I also warm up in tracksuit pants. It could be 40 degrees, but I still warm up in trackies, till the national anthem is sung! Don't ask my why, it has just become habit rather than rituals over the years. |
| ourWNBL.com: | How is Sam Woosnam doing? |
| Jenni: | Sammy is a tough chick and has a heart of gold. She is travelling remarkably well and is making steady progress day by day. We miss her out on the court she is now contributing in other ways on the sideline. She is a strong and determined girl and will be back ready for next season! |
| ourWNBL.com: | Are you adjusting well to the smaller size basketball? |
| Jenni: | Well I must be liking it, with all the assists that are coming my way [Hehehe]!! No it really hasn't bothered me at all. After a while like anything it just becomes the norm! It does make the women's game more entertaining though. |
| ourWNBL.com: | Tell me about this Backyard Blitz with Tracey Braithwaite. |
| Jenni: | Well it was more than a Backyard Blitz. It was more of DIY,
meets Backyard Blitz, meets the WNBL!! I decided that for Tracey
and Ben's wedding present that if I collect/raise enough money
from people who were invited to the wedding as well as from sponsors
then we could maybe do a nursery (as they were expecting), for
them whilst they were on their honeymoon! Well one room turned
into every room bar their bedroom, being stripped, washed, resealed,
painted and decorated with new furniture. I raised $6000, from
friends, family even players from interstate and overseas and
then our sponsors such as Evright Trophies supplied materials
and an electrician, Henley Properties laid a new lawn out the
front and an awesome patio out the back and Distinctive Homes
supplied 80L of paint, carpet and a tip bin! |
| ourWNBL.com: | What goals have you set for yourself this year? |
| Jenni: | This is a new challenge for me especially since I am now co-captain
with Sam, I am really focused on trying to be more consistent
week to week and lead by example for our team. |
