The latest addition to the workshop.

I have been saving jobs for this for years, first cab off the rank is
The Sonex wheel rims , the centre hub was slightly off centre which causes the brake
drums to be off centre and consequently the bolts will not go in properly
I machined a small amount off the centre hub so the brake drums sit properly and run true.(Well more true they are still not as good as I would like.
The wheel is driven by my home made system.
Getting a bit more scientific.
The above method was a bit rough and did not produce very good results so I decided to do it properly. First
step was purchase a dial gauge then I removed the bearing outer so I could machine the centre and get the wheel running true. Notice the little ledge to stop the ring from going all the way in. If this was not there you would have great difficulty getting the ring out even with the collet puller shown. It is also the reason some people wrongly believe that the ring was not pushed all the way in. Actually I did not pull it out , I pushed it out using a standard bearing puller pushing on the collet.
The last shot is a wheel half set up to run true to the tyre bead in the 4 jaw chuck. I am machining out the bearing seat to accept a press and glue in sleve which I will then machine to take the bearing outer ring.

I don't need these wheels any more as I have my Tracy O wheels and they are loverly. I am not one to throw things away and you never know there might be another plane.
