- 15.12.2004: NEW CONSTITUTION FOR FRIENDS
During 2004, a new Associations Act was enacted by
the NT Government. This new Act and its accompanying Regulations have
implications for the Friends, and will require us to ensure we comply
with the Legislation in a number of areas.
One area requiring some work by the Friends is the
Constitution. The existing Constitution required some re-working in
any event, as it contained a number of anomalies and was very basic.
A (Constitutional) Sub-Committee of the Friends Committee
has commenced work on a new Constitution. The Regulations provide
a model Constitution which can be used as a template, so the task
is made easier.
A draft new Constitution will be provided for the
consideration of members early in 2005. It is proposed that the new
Constitution will be considered for adoption at a General Meeting
to be advised. This will require the approval of a two-thirds majority
of voting members. In accordance with the existing Constitution "Not
less than four (4) weeks.notice will be given to members of proposed
changes".
