France's Kitchenette: Tips and FAQs

On this page you will find, hopefully, some answers to some pretty common questions.

IMPORTANT TIP:
Before you lash out and buy the latest "hip" baby food recipe book, why don't you borrow it from your local library? You will be able to take a better look at the book than you could at a book store and decide if it is really the book you want to get. Also I found that Amazon.com often has interesting reviews, written by people like you and me. Simply do a search for the book you want (by title and author) and you will probably found a few interesting reviews.

Starting Solids
There comes a time, a very confusing time for first time mothers, where baby is ready to feed on more than breast milk or formula. What to serve? How to start? What to do? The information you will find here is based on my experiences and on a bit of research.

Where's the Beef (and the Chicken and the Fish)
Now that your child has eaten cereal, fruit, vegetables, it's time to move on to proteins. But how do you make meat for a baby? This information is what I gathered from my own experience with this dilemma. I hope you can benefit from it.

Cooking Beans
How can I cook my own soy beans? How long should I soak chick peas before cooking them? Can I cook red kidney beans in a pressure cooker? How do I do it?

Food Restrictions
When is it ok to give my child cooked egg whites? This recipe has honey in it, can I make it for my baby? What's this I hear about alfalfa sprouts?
View the information I have collected to date on this topic. This is not an allergy information page but simply a guide to foods better avoided until a certain age, this page will be updated and/or annoted as I find new tid-bits to add. For more information on allergies take a look at the links on my resources page.

Iron
My musings and "research notes" on increasing iron intake in children who need it. Also is there such a thing as too much milk?

Milk
My suggestions to getting milk in a toddler's diet when said toddler will NOT drink milk!

Growth Chart
Why does my child not seem to have grown in the last few months?
