Dainese T2 back protector

General impressions

Well, it's a light little unit, a bit under a kilo. Construction overall is solid, although for some reason the (quite dense) plastic seems to pick up marks at the slightest provocation. The strap is strong and reasonably soft, but there's no way you'd want to wear it without something between you and it. The attachment to the protectors 'wings' is made though a slot cut into the wings and then double stitched (see photo below). The belt buckle (again constructed from a dense plastic) is also unlikely to come undone.

Now, my chief concern was the lack of a shoulder harness. This actually turned out to be a non issue! Once it's strapped on, the back protector is surprisingly reluctant to move around. However, this is definitely one to wear under your jacket, as the top of the protector does come away from you back. My main complaint is the swivel hinge in the lower third. It's not a problem while you're in a riding position, with the jacket holding it in place, but when standing upright it does tend to drift away from the centreline.

The segments (6 in total) don't stand up to high, but the protector does cause a slight hunch back.

Now for the pics! Click for a bigger version (dial up beware, big version are quite large, most over 250 kB).

Note the offending swivel. You can also see the outline of the honeycomb

The material grips quite well and combined with the wings, hold the protector in place. The lining (as you can see) is in two seperate pieces. The white thing is the label.

The buckle and strap. No cheapy webbing here!

Close up of the strap attachement. The fabric in the middle of the sunken bit is actually left over from manufacturering, I could've pulled it out but decided to leave well enough alone.

And the protector being worn. This isn't a good photo , as I'm more upright then normal. But as you can see, the protector doesn't lie flush by itself.
