Descended from Imperial Fists gene-stock the Black Templars are a permanently crusading Chapter, with Battle Barges roaming the galaxy looking for heretics to burn, aliens to slaughter and deviants to cleanse. Colour scheme and markings from Codex: Armageddon.

Black Templar Initiate with Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon
I've always liked the Black Templars, ever since they were featured in the 3rd Battle for Armageddon campaign, I'd like to do more of these guys but I've never been happy with the way my whites turn out so I haven't. This guy is the result of my 3rd attempt at painting BTs and is the only one I'm not embarrassed to show, the first 2 are just ... ***shudder***, I don't want to think about it. The highlights are a failed experiment in using Shadow Grey and Liche Purple to highlight up from black to Shadow Grey, but they didn't turn out too bad in the end.

Black Templar Painting Recipe
Spray Black Undercoat.
Thinned Chaos Black to cover up any imperfections in the undercoat.
Details like ribbing and back pack exhausts are painted Boltgun Metal, then highlighted with Chainmail. These days I'd paint with a mix of BGM and Regal Blue, to give a gunmetal edge, the highlight with a few layers of BGM/Chainmail mixes.
The highlights for the black are just a mix of Chaos Black and Shadow Grey. 3 layers, finishing with straight SG. The highlighting on this guy is a bit heavy handed, but a few extra layers of CB/SG would smooth them out nicely.
The white on the shoulder pads is worked up from the black undercoat through Codex Grey, Fortress Grey and Space Wolves Grey, then finally Skull White. These days I'd prefer any of the techniques I used on my Iron Snake's white areas, pick one you like and run with it…
