Grief Bringers

The Grief Bringers are the DIY Chapter of Rogue Trader, the helpful fella who did 99% of the behind-the-scenes work here at the Fortress Monastery. So, to thank him for that and the help he gave me with Index Astartes: Brazen Claws, I painted up a mini for him...

Tactical Marine

Basic Marine built from your average plastic gear with a bionic arm/bolter from the Iron Hands box set. This guy was also a chance to experiment with 'speed painting' though I use the term loosely. 8 hours from start to finish, easily one of the fastest paint jobs I've turned out in years. I think I'll go back to 20 hour Marines for my army though, it might take me until 5th Ed to have a playable force but at least it'll look good...

Turned out OK for a quick job (by my standards), though the eyes and lenses need work and the purple could do with a touch more highlighting. I'm also not 100% happy with the green highlights, the more I look at it the less I like the Goblin Green and the Catachan Green together...

Grief Bringer Recipe

I painted my version of a Grief Bringer a little differently to RT colour wise. As ever I started with a black undercoat and worked from there...

Purple

  • Imperial Purple Basecoat
  • First highlight 50/50 Imperial Purple/Liche Purple
  • Second highlight Liche Purple
  • Third and later highlights created by adding my 'Iron Snakes Blue' to Liche Purple, any pale light blue will do though. The idea is to lighten the purple without making it pink, it works quite well up to a point but after that it gets a bit lavender which doesn't really suit Marines does it?

Green

  • Catachan Green Basecoat
  • All the highlights are created by adding increasing amounts of Goblin Green to CG until I reached straight GG after 3 or 4 highlights.
