FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I wear to class?

Wear something comfortable that allows you freedom to move.  Leggings, crop tops, leotards and t-shirts are fine.  If you prefer to wear a skirt, be sure it has enough fullness and stretch to allow freedom of movement.  If you have something to tie around your hips that's great too, or you can borrow a hip scarf for use during class.

Do I need dance experience?

Not at all!  BellydanceNOW beginner classes will take you through the most basic steps.  The move on to Core Moves & Concepts classes for more new moves and choreographies!  Our experienced instructors can help you to find your 'inner dancer'.

How long does it take to learn?

This varies as everyone is different.  Some of the movements you will find very easy, others will take more time to master.  Our BellydanceNOW beginners classes are ongoing and will allow you to learn at your own pace.

But I'm way too fat / got no hips / feel too skinny to bellydance!

No way!  Bellydance originates from Middle Eastern folk dances.  Folk dances are designed for *all* people to enjoy, regardless of their shape.  In fact many women find that bellydance helps them to accept their bodies the way they are.  When you enter the studio, you can leave body anxieties behind and simply enjoy the movements!

Is it safe for pregnant women?

This is something you need to discuss with your doctor.  It is generally not advisable to embark on a new exercise program while pregnant.  However many experienced bellydancers continue dancing almost until their delivery date!  If you choose to attend regular classes while pregnant, you should let your instructor know so that she can modify some of the movements for you.  NEW Bellydance through your pregnancy with Min - email Min or call 0402 153 577 for details.

What are these A-Z Routines you keep referring to?

The A-Z Bellydance Routines are 26 16-count bellydance movement combinations designed by Keti Sharif.  Jilyan, Fereshta, Min and Kerry are all certified instructors.  You can read more about them here, or to find out more about Keti visit her website.

How much do classes cost?

To start bellydancing with Oasis Dance Studio simply purchase a starter package of 5 classes for $65.  After that classes are $15 casually (cash only) unless otherwise specified on the schedule.  Or take advantage of our Oasis ticket system.  Tickets are 8 for $98 or 16 for $184 and can be used for almost any Studio classes.  You can purchase your tickets from your instructor.  We accept cash, money orders, credit card or EFTPOS payment.
