Dull Maintenance Stuff
This is dull maintenance stuff from my front page. I've got a cold today and don't feel like doing much but tinker on the computer. It's a lovely Australian winter day, so the girls are out playing in the sunshine. I'll rain tomorrow, so I'll take advantage of it while I can.
The following was removed from my front page:
Feb 19, 2005 My web page has moved!
Due to iVillage discontinuing their free web page hosting, my web page had to move. If you're reading this, then you've found my page. If you're not reading this, well...
Jan 20 2005: I've started submitting for publication again, mostly short stories, as I don't have the time at the moment to pitch non-fic articles. My two toddlers are rather intense and high-maintenance.
Nov-Dec 2004:
Novel of the Month
"Let Sleeping Goddesses Lie"
I'm nearly finished with the first draft. I'm hoping to be done by May, when I plan on finding a home for "Goddesses". If you know your agent enjoys a good fantasy with a touch of humour, feel free to share their contact details.
Anyhow, that was probably too dull to share with you. Here's some interesting from the history of the Internet:
"Back in the early days of the World Wide Web it was common for people to put up web pages in progress. They acted as placeholders so people browsing the web could see that there was content pending there. This was done because there wasn't much content at all (comparitively) on the Web
and web page creators wanted people to know that something was going to be there. Pretty little "Under Construction" graphics were common.
Today it's considered vulgar to put up "Under Construction" on a web site by a couple of schools of thought: one school claims that a web page shouldn't be put up if it's not complete--for a business, this makes sense; the second school claims that web pages should all be fluid and dynamic and their content should be updated to keep up with the times.
Since I don't rely on my pages for commercial purposes and I don't have the time to devote to making sure my pages are complete and up-to-date, I tend to stick with historic precedence and the second school of thought and put up incomplete web pages. At least I have the sense of contemporary fashion and not put up an "under construction" sign.
