  • Book Review - "Lily Quench and the Hand of Manuelo" and "Lily Quench and the Search for King Dragon" by Natalie Jane Prior
I must start off by sharing how much these books stunned me. I've read a fair bit of children's fantasy and "Lily Quench" has to be one of the best series I've read in a very long time.

    June 1997 - February 1999. Resurrected January 2003.
Sample Columns (See here for list.)
    • "Giving Birth Isn't as Bad as Everyone Says" (Vol 8, Iss 4; 24 March 2003)
Giving birth isn't as bad as everyone says it is. How do I know? Because I gave birth last year, that's why. After years of falling pregnant and losing babies, I finally had one stick and carry to full term. In fact, she went over term.
Ever see a ten-month-pregnant bunny? Nuthin' but belly.

    • Owning a Car Ain't What it Used to Be (Vol 8, Iss 3; 3 March 2003 )
My brother owns several cars. As expected, he does not currently have a girlfriend. At his age, you can afford either one, or the other, but not both.
So he's chosen cars. I don't blame him. I've seen the last batch of women interested in him, and he's better off with cars.

    • "How NOT to Be a Newbie" (Vol 2, Iss 8; Feb 24, 1997)
Every day thousands of people join the great cosmic force known as the Internet. And many of these people like to go around with big red neon signs screaming NEWBIE!!"           If you are new to the Net, here are a few tips to toss off that neon sign....

    • Unsubtle Ads (Vol 3, Iss 6, Mar 23rd, 1998)
I'm an old enough Netizen to remember an Internet without the World Wide Web. FTP was the mode of file transfer and access, and Usenet Newsgroups were the place for general information and fun.
Then came the World Wide Web, sweeping all before, and drawing the Common Man into the realm known as Cyberspace....

    • "Employment Security in the Computer Industry Or How to Keep Your Job" (Vol 2, Iss 16 Apr 21, 1997)
It seems that there is no such thing as job security anymore. Who knows how many jobs I've held until the carpet was yanked beneath me. Downsizing, lack of budget, some college kid who can do more for less pay are often the uncontrollable forces that cause us to get the boot.
So, how do you keep your job....?

    • Y1.999K Problems (Vol 4, Iss 1; Jan 11, 1999)
I have a car. This car is older than me. Despite its age, it runs quite well... until Christmas Day. I guess even cars like to take the day off in Typical Australian Fashion....
