Biography

One of Heidi Wessman Kneale's earliest memories was composing a song on the piano. Please don't confuse her with Mozart, for that first song was little more than a rhythmic pounding on that poor piano, but there was a pattern to it. Therefore, it qualifies as music.

She had a few years of piano lessons then took up the violin, which was to remain her primary instrument for a few decades. She had a few forays into other instruments, such as percussion and organ, but always came back to the violin and piano.

Her first composed song performed to public acclaim was the first movement of her Fantasia Concerto in D Minor in March 1990 at her high school's Concerto Night. And she's been writing songs ever since.

She was a member of the Granite Youth Symphony from 1984-1990 and toured with them all over North America. She has performed at Disneyland, Yellowstone National Park, The Calgary Stampede, Washington DC and Carnegie Hall in New York. She was a member of the Utah Philharmonia from 1990-1996 which never toured, but let the world come to them.

She studied music at the University of Utah with an emphasis on composition. She earned her BA in Film and Music.

Currently she is working towards her AMusA (associate music degree) from the Australian Music Educators Board.

She moved to Australia in 1996 where she writes, performs and teaches music on a semi-professional basis.

About the Composer
She likes music. In her mind, her life has a sound track that she wishes she could share with the world all the time. Music is her metaphor for life.

What she loves most about music is the workings of harmony. It amazes her how different notes layer'd together create emotional response. Perhaps that's why she favours the piano so much.
