The
Swan TAFE eV Challenge is a competition for teams to design and build
a cheap but effective electric vehicle and then compete with it against
other teams. Competitors will be tasked with driving around a closed
circuit, relying solely upon a specified amount of battery storage.
The winning team will be the one that travels the greatest distance
in 60 minutes. Aimed
mainly at schools, there is also an open category available to TAFE
college, university, business and private teams.
The spirit
of the event is to build an inexpensive but safe and effective machine
in an environment of open-ended learning and team work.

Situation
Australia
produces a wondrous array of natural resources. These primary products
include silver, cotton, wool, timber, wheat, fruit and vegetables
which we export to other countries, often in their natural state.
Australians then import manufactured goods made from our own primary
products, now at a much higher price. Other countries have added
value to our primary products. To take our place as a knowledge
economy within the global community, Australians need to develop
products, processes or concepts designed for the local and export
market that add value to our locally produced primary products.
Design
Challenge
Develop
a product, process or concept to add value to an Australian primary
product.
Ideas
The Quest,
based on the Technology and Enterprise Learning Area outcomes can
be a cross-learning area project with students achieving outcomes
from several learning areas. It can also be based within one or
more of the traditional secondary subjects of agriculture, business
education, design and technology, home economics and information
technology. The following ideas, some from previous years may start
you thinking of the many innovative and enterprising ways value
can be added to primary products. |
