Dattoman's Datsun 1000 Chronicles

This is where we put it all together and hopefully make something that goes.

Engine is in-place on the mounts now.

Engine in its new home. As you can see its quite close to the driver and a scatter shield is certainly in order to protect against flying broken bits.

Flywheel on. What a pain in the arse. Seems those 6 bolts aren't evenly spaced around the flange so the flywheel only goes on 1 way. Took me......you guessed it 6 goes to get it right.

Very simple engine mounts are required. Engine sits on its own cross-member which bolts to chassis. I will be changing this slightly when I go dry sump for more clearance for the pan.

O.K as of today 30/8/03 the gearbox is in place and now requires a different rear mount. The original owner was using a Datsun box and I am using Toyota so I have to make some changes to the cross-member mounts. A custom tail-shaft of about 12" long is also required. Note original shifter position on box needs to be relocated to front of box. There is a ball-joint attached to the scatter-shield which will act as shifter once the linkages are sorted.

As it appears now all in and running. Alternator is low mount on passengers side for 2 reasons. 1. Lower centre of gravity. 2. No room to mount up high on the opposite side.

Remote shifter mechanism. The forward one with the knob is mounted on a ball joint on top of the scatter shield.

The short rear one comes directly out of the Toyota gearbox. Selecting reverse is difficult. Its done by lifting the bar and pushing the lever left and down. Requires 2 hands.

You can also see the batter location and battery isolator switch , fire extinguisher , 3" 4 point harness and tiny 250mm steering wheel..
