Dattoman's Datsun 1000 Chronicles

Updated. Car now finished and competing in AMR Speed Event Series.

For updates visit the Race pages.

Here's the racecar in the build. I'll update it as things progress.

Next item on the list of things to do is take the beast to work and take the body off so I can fit the motor. While its off I'll be doing the brakes, giving the chassis a coat of paint and fixing everything else I find while its off.

Fiberglass 1000 bonnet with scoop.4 locating tabs slide into grooves cut in cowl vent and front is secured with bonnet pins and clips. Trust me it looks much better with the rest of the front end in place.

Side view of bonnet with scoop. I intend on replicating this scoop to use on my white street coupe to help cool the turbo engine. Might even sell a couple if there's any interest. Won't be able to use original hinges though.

Cockpit where everything might actually happen one day. Note not a lot of foot room in the pedal area for my big feet. Large silver knob to left of steering wheel is for brake bias. My left leg actually leans against the alloy paneling and hits the steering wheel when I release the clutch. I will be looking at moving the paneling slightly when the engine goes in.

I need to figure out what these do if I ever want to start this car. I'm assuming main power ,lights ,fuel pumps ,engine power ,starter button and 1 I'm not too sure of yet till I trace all the wiring. Might be wipers.

This is technically the "engine bay" where the engine sits. The dirty blue-ish bar on the right is the gearbox cross-member. The one on the left is where the engine mounts attach too.

"Engine bay" in relation to drivers sitting position. The steel bar to the right is the gearbox cross-member. The one on the left is technically the front one that holds the engine mounts. That's the gearbox sitting on the drivers seat. No room for passengers in this one.

As you can see there is no part of the engine forward of the firewall. Firewall would have been where aluminum plates are resting under wiper motor. You can just make out the coil - over's and tube suspension arms.

Another shot.....look Ma no engine. This is the view firewall forward showing radiator - yet to attach fan - coil overs , oil catch bottle (primitive) ,and awful brake master and booster which will be replaced with something more efficient. I don't plan on robbing engine vacuum to try to power a booster.

Blurry front of car shot minus motor and front end panels. You can get a bit of an idea how low the car sits from this shot though. The bars in front of the radiator are merely to hold the front panels and bonnet on.

Front flare molded into guard. Fiberglass lightweight bumpers. I plan on using these guards with flares on the white coupe also. I think they will look great with the bonnet scoop on a street car. I just need to steal the wing design of a certain yellow/red coupe sports sedan so I can use that also.

Rear flare bolted to guard. Those are apparently 13 x 8 wheels trying to get out of those guards. More stuff for the white coupe if I can adapt them on.

Alloy rear wing.....makes a good table at the moment. Should help with some down force to keep the slicks on the tarmac.3 position adjustable if need be.

Tyre stack for when the time comes. These are just old Formula Ford ones I'll use for Hill climbs and setting the car up. Once its up and running I will be buying 2 new sets of slicks for the serious stuff. 1 set I will hand grooved for those wetter days.

Rear suspension. Jag coil-overs. All rose joints. Disc rear (commodore I believe). I don't think the little welded centre H145 will be sufficient but I'll run it as it is till it breaks and then I'll reconsider my options and fit something stronger. As I plan to fit a later turbo engine one day I'll need something considerably stronger.
