The
Oldies' Climbing Group was originally formed in February 1999 with the
idea of getting us older climbers of Western Australia out on climbing
trips together.
|
|
Due to most of us having
'fingers in many other pies', a lack of communication, our desire to
climb with each other, and there usually being only last-minute
invitations to go on trips with other older climbers when prior
arrangements had already been made, it was decided that some kind of
regular cooperation was needed - or that we should PLAN some future
trips together!
|
|
With this in mind, the
founders of our group, Dave James, Robin 'Mac' McArthur, Tony Fowler, Gerry MacGill, and Michael Adams, got
together and discussed what would be the best way to deal with the
problem. The end result of the discussion was that we would form the
group in an effort to bring the older climbers together on a more
regular basis through the use of a published 'calendar' of planned
future trips.
|
|
Because most of us are
semi-retired/retired, our trips are mainly planned for weekdays so as
to avoid any weekend crowds - but weekend climbing can be arranged
separately if required.
Further: Since the Oldies' group has become established and the members are now much better in touch, there are many extra 'casual' day meets around the Perth area during the week - maybe YOU would like to come along on some of these meets with us! |
|
Please
note: Most Oldies climb in the 'traditional' manner, if you are
more interested in 'sport-climbing' then it would be better to get in
touch with the Climbers
Association of Western Australia.
|
|
The group is not an
official 'club'. Nobody is 'in charge' and there is no committee - just
a mutual agreement between the founder-members to organize trips for
the benefit of ourselves and other interested parties. But there are a
few rules and requirements that must be considered by all members and
prospective members:
1) Even though the name of our group might suggest that it is only for older climbers, we will gladly welcome any younger climbers, or prospective climbers, who would like to come along on our trips. 2) There are no fees to join the group, and a quarterly emailed calendar will be sent to each member, or upon request. 3) Members must be an affiliate member of the Climbers Association of Western Australia. |

Michael Myers' One Net Internet account until One Net folded during
July 2001, causing Michael to eventually change his account to another
Server, but too late for him to retain the Oldies' pages. The Oldies
would like to sincerely thank Michael Myers for allowing us to use the
valuable space on his web page account for the first two and a half
years of the group's existence.
