Why Small Business?
Current trends show that many Australians are choosing to work for themselves. This is often the result of changes in the workplace leading to a redundancy package. For those involved, the process is challenging and often quite daunting and the transition to new work can take some time and a great deal of determination.

Working for yourself, in a business that interests and supports your lifestyle options, can be very attractive and rewarding.

Why do you need a mentor?
The challenges of starting a small business are many and varied and it is really important that you get the startup phase right. Whilst you may be an expert in your chosen field you will find that starting a business requires different knowledge and skills. You may discover that making critical decisions will become difficult due to the amount of emotion and energy you have invested into the start up phase.

A business mentor is that one person that you can trust to give you impartial and practical advice.

Why Business Enterprise Centres Australia (BECA)?
BEC Australia (BECA) is the national association of Business Enterprise Centres (BECs). The BECs provide support for the small business sector across Australia. Each BEC employs experienced business mentors with a particular expertise in assisting you through the start-up phase. These services will be provided at a low cost..

What is StartUP Queensland?

Following on from the mentoring session you will need to work through the seven on-line BBB modules. This should be completed within 6 weeks. During this period you can withdraw at any time from the program and receive a refund of $250 (GST excl).

What next?
At the completion of the 6 week initial phase you will meet again with your BEC mentor to discuss your progress and if both you and the mentor feel that this program is the right one for you then you will be enrolled in the StartUP Queensland Mentoring Program.

If you are not accepted into the mentoring program or if you decide this is not for you then you will be refunded $250 (GST excl).

Those invited to participate in the ongoing mentoring phase will receive 14 hours of mentoring over the following 3-9 months. To accept the offer of the ongoing mentoring, you will need to sign a program participation schedule with your BEC mentor outlining milestones and an agreed meeting schedule which reflects your specific needs. The agreed program participation schedule will be lodged with BECA.

At the conclusion of the StartUP Queensland Mentoring Program you should have an emerging small business – which you will continue to work on and in over the next few years.
