Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art, developed last century by Professor Morihei Ueshiba. Known to Aikido students as O’Sensei, Prof. Ueshiba was exceptionally proficient in a number of traditional martial arts.

O'Sensei passed away in 1969 at the age of eighty six, having devoted his life to the development and teaching of Aikido.

 

The Art

With its roots in unarmed, spear and sword techniques Aikido is an effective martial art. It is known for its application of non-resistance and an emphasis on harmony in the face of conflict.
The essence of Aikido lies beyond the resolution of physical conflict. Aikido has been described as a means of unifying the body, mind and spirit; a form of meditation; a budo. Aikido demo 1
