Join Dhimurru’s Volunteers Group! Dhimurru often plans projects that are open to volunteer participation from within the community and abroad. These include Week-end activities, Marine Debris Clean-ups, Turtle Monitoring, Track Clearing, Ghost Net Monitoring and Survey Work. Dhimurru invites any interested member of the community to lodge their details with Dhimurru. Dhimurru will then sort out its logistics before getting back to confirm your participation. These events are great opportunities to take part in sharing hard work as well as camp fires, and the beauty of this part of the Dhimurru Indigenous Protected Area. In order to streamline the event and minimize logistics Dhimurru is asking participants to be as self-contained as possible. If you would like to join Dhimurru’s Volunteers, or for more information, please forward your details to assist@SPAMBUNGLERdhimurru.com.au and we’ll keep you updated on upcoming events. Ghost Nets Traditional Owners, conservationists, scientists & government representatives from all parts of the Gulf of Carpentaria gathered together in Yirrkala recently to discuss an issue of common concern: Ghost Nets Ghost nets are fishing nets that have been either lost or discarded at sea which continue to fish as if guided by a ghostly hand - the ocean currents & winds - and end up becoming rubbish on our shores. These nets are recognized throughout the world as a menace to all marine wild life but in the Gulf region they are a particular threat to turtles & dugongs.
