Introduced by Dianne van der Poel
Bevan is a good friend of mine, whom I have known since University days. He is now a Science Teacher, but also has other talents - he tells a great joke and is a natural story teller. Bevan has been playing the fantasy role playing game "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" (copyright TSR) with me since University days. His creative side first showed itself when he started painting many wonderful D&D figures. But Bevan's story telling side came to the fore when he started to DM (Dungeon Master) for our group. Although we weren't very impressed with his first effort (we were all killed by a dragon in the first 5 minutes), he soon improved, and is now an excellent Dungeon Master. Bevan has started writing short stories in recent years, and one of those won a competition and was read on a radio station. Thus he does have some talent in this area.
One of Bevan's ventures is a novel of the Fantasy genre. Its working title is 'A Mercenary Tale'. This rollicking adventure story has wonderful characterisations - but best of all it has a sense of humour! Bevan has kindly given permission for me to preview the first chapter of this novel on this page. Hence the first chapter is available for download in either zipped Word 6 format, or as zipped text. If you would like a small sampler first, I have 2 separate extracts for viewing.
| Extract 1 - A Tavern Brawl | Extract 2 - Concerning Mountain Dwarves | Chapter 1 in 'Rich Text' format (28K) | Chapter 1 in Word 6 format (32K) |
Bevan is interested in finding a publisher for his novel. If you can help in this regard, or have any other comments for Bevan, please email him. However if you have any problems with the file formats, please contact me - I may be able to supply alternatives.
Another of Bevan's books, 'Teaching Daedalus' has been published on the Internet. This book is about a high school teacher in Western Australia who has a surprising past. Please see the Jacobyte Books site for details.
