A spectacular hilltop
site with sea views all round was beintg neglected by the brick
and tile house built on it. Fortunately there was space on the
seaward side for a one room extension that realises the potential.
The dominant hexagon window results from height constraints
and allows the centre of the room to project up into the roof
space whilst retaining insulating, ventilated side roofs.
Environmental performance
is central to the design.
There are photovoltaic cells on the roof, extended western eaves
and a raised 'jack roof'that ventilates the main space. The
southwestern corner is occupied by a spa which acts as a heat
sink as well as a low cool zone in summer.
