Spread
along a part of the main ridge in Sorrento, WA, this houise
takes full adveantage of its elevated position whilst allowing
for recently introduced privacy requirements. The layers of
curved and double curved roof and the angling of the house on
the lot create a series of counterpoint forms that culminate
in the crescendo of the clients' shared study which extends
over the site fall.
Intended to be fully
glazed front and back, the house has wide roof overhangs to
screen out the hot summer sun and rising volumes to carry away
heat. The upper floor retreat is a tribute to Jorn Utzon's house
in Majorca, lined with limestone it has windows that face the
sunset and views to an offshore island and down the coast.
