Amorial Bearings!

Both paintings sourced from Andy Grieve's HomePage
Above: Grieve family coat of arms painted by Archibald Grieve in 1851. Above: Grieve embattled coat of arms also painted by Archibald Grieve in 1851.

Motto - Hoc Securior - Safer by This . . .

Our Grieve family's amoral bearings have not been authenticated and we therefore can make no claim to the motto and arms.

Although I cannot tie the artist into our family from my own research, the arm, in armour, in hand a dagger, point downward, and the motto are familiar. That image is reproduced on heirloom china belonging to one branch of our family, and the seal used for letters and the sealing the private mail bag, at "Glenhowden", the homestead of the Grieve pioneers to Queensland.
