Complimentary Social (unsourced newsclipping):

A complimentary social was extended to Mr and Mrs J E Dodd in the Brown Hill Institute last night, when a large number of old acquaintances took advantage of the opportunity to meet their friends once again. Mr C Morley presided, and in a few words of welcome, paid a tribute to the splendid work performed by both Mr and Mrs Dodd. Mr Dodd had been instrumental, many years ago, in obtaining for the residents of Brown Hill their institute. He was sorry Mr Dodd had suffered severely in health, but was glad to see he was now improving (applause).

In responding, Mr Dodd referred to his present connection with the old Institute committee, and declared that, since the construction of the Institute, no section of the community of a similar size had raised more money for charitable and benevolent purposes that Brown Hill. The old folk of Brown Hill had known how to bring up their boys, and no place of a similar size had a better record, as could be seen by the roll of honour on the wall..."
