Make Conrad a part of your life.

I'm lying in bed, checking my email and twitter and rss and facebook, and wondering if I'm too much of a nerd for my own good. Reading Tomas Ford's excellent posts after spending a week with him and actually getting to know his craziness, I'm a little bit ashamed that I haven't been updating this SUPER COOL BLOG more often. Well, here you are.

I hope you've watched a CONRADCIGARSPIPES video by now. Yes, they are all like that. Yes, over 9,000 of them (lololo). He's a genius.

TUNEWISE I've been working pretty hard on trying to write these kinda heavy east coast kinda things. It's working out pretty well and more news about that will inevitably leak before some kind of announcement in late November or early December.

Also, I'm looking to do some more 'over east' shows around Easter next year; let me know if you have the good shit.

Ok. Time to get up, tune in, and freak out.

So, having not written anything for ages, here's a quick run down on what I've been doing. Of course, if you're reading this, then you're probably well aware of all of this. Never mind. It'll be educational.

I came back from tour on Monday morning. It was pretty ace, but I was bloody knackered by the end of it. Tomas is a great guy to be touring with, but I think that if I was organising another tour myself, I'd move at a much more.. leisurely pace.

Places I'd visit again: Hobart, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney.

Places I'd not bother with next time: Newcastle.

Work is interesting again, and it's good to be challenged again.

I'm playing this Sunday (the 13th) at Mojos - 8.30pm I think, the tour round-up show with Tomas Ford. I'm also playing at Earthdance on the weekend of the 25/26th. Should be a fucking cracker.

Yeah, I'm at a bit of a loss these days. I complain to twitter, and everything else is pretty fucking good, so I find it hard to find the motivation. 1500 twitter updates though, hehe. awesome.

Does anyone know where I can get Timbo King / Royal Fam discs?

Booked a bunch of stuff for the tour over east the other day. I'm poor now, but fuckit, it'll be a banging week and a half.

The office has moved to Subi now, and we've been enjoying the variety and quality of lunch foods since Monday. Edo is fucking great. FAB is awesome. Fab, even.

I've noticed that I am finding less and less to write about after starting to use Twitter so much. I flew past 1000 updates without even noticing. yeesh.

So last weekend I moved into a new house! @chipschipschips and I signed a lease on Friday and had all our shit under the one roof by Sunday. It's an awesome place. I've re-built my setup, and have found a few problems - namely my rack power distributor thingy seems to be wonky. grr. dunno why it wasn't giving me hassle at Nola... oh well. Nothing a new board can't fix.

My lack of blogging recently has probably been brought on by my increasing use of twitter. I didn't think this whole 'microblogging' thing was a thing, but it turns out that I only really need one outlet with which to broadcast my goings on. For instance, I don't think I've written about my upcoming tour on this site, however I've been all a-twitter about it for a week or two now.

THAT'S RIGHT; I'm coming over east. Newcastle, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide, and possibly Sydney (tbc). The shows are in the first week of September. I've sent in my leave request form, and it best be approved, otherwise, there will be trouble. I'm supporting piezo-electro-terrier Tomas Ford, who was generous enough to offer me support slots on a bunch of shows (except for the Melbourne one, which is a Heavy Innit!! gig :D Big thanks to Mr Ford and Mr Webb for the hookups... should be a fucking busy week, but I can't wait to get my shit out to the East Coast crews. I'll furnish with some flyers/press/whatever when it comes to hand.

Oh yeah and those tunes from last post are up on myspace now. Hit the top link for '440' and 'The Attack'.

Sun Ra [wiki] has always made me curious, and not just because he dressed better than anyone in music ever has or ever will; but because, as a general rule, the more insane the artist, the more engaging the art. I don't necessarily agree with Rolling Stone, who describe him in a re-issue review as "the missing link between Duke Ellington and Public Enemy". I would say that he's more the missing link between, say, half a roast chicken, and Alf. He had a thing, and he did his thing without giving a damn about why the oven has a top hat in it or peanuts peanuts PEANUTS PEANUTS. aaaaaand the batman symbol.

Listen to this album is like reading that email forward about mixing up letters in words, but keeping the first and last letter the same. Yuor barin is sepospud to be albe to put the wrdos bcak teteghor. The horns are out of tune, but they loudly proclaim that being out of tune is ok. Actually, no. They loudly ask if it's ok if they play out of tune, and seem to be waiting for an answer throughout the whole album. The answer doesn't really matter - asking the question is enough for Sun Ra. I think that was his intention.

That, and also, aliens from Saturn told him to do it.

It's easy to label him as a fruitloop, especially after hearing his music. There's cacophony, atonalism, seemly random sound collage, and just downright noise. If there's one thing that stands out the most though, it's the sense that Sun Ra had a vision that described where he wanted to go. I have no idea what that vision might have been, and it's impossible to really know. I suspect that if he was alive, and you asked him, you wouldn't understand the answer. One thing I do know though - I'm envious of such strong conviction. He didn't give a fuck about what anyone else thought.

Find your thing, and go do your thing with every ounce of strength in your body, and don't give a shit what anyone else thinks.

Sun Ra told me to do it.
