Duo Lenz

Duo Lenz was formed in 1997 and comprises husband and wife guitarists Ruth and Richard Lenz. Since getting together as a professional guitar duo, their performance schedule has been extensive.

It was at the Classical Guitar Festival of Great Britain that they first met; after finishing their post graduate performance studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama they came together not only as a professional guitar duo but also as husband and wife.

They were married in Cardiff, Wales and shortly thereafter moved to Australia. Together and individually they have given or taken part in numerous recitals worldwide. Duo Lenz has been praised for their technical skills and unique interaction on stage; they have been invited to play for many prestigious events such as the Shell Darwin International Guitar Festival and the Frankston International Guitar Festival.

Various composers have been inspired by their close ensemble playing to write new works for Duo Lenz. This has resulted in the duo playing and recording many premiere performances, including new compositions written by Richard Lenz himself.

The range of guitars used by Duo Lenz is as extensive as their repertoire, using various historic guitars in their lecture recitals.

Besides their work as performing musicians, Ruth and Richard are well qualified and experienced educators using a progressive guitar method written by the Duo. They are always expanding the student repertoire by composing new pieces for all levels.

Both Ruth and Richard are sought after as examiners for the Australian Music Examinations Board and the University of Western Australia, as well as adjudicators for various schools and competitions.
