Music composed and performed by Joe Dolce.
The lyrics were written by Louisa
Lawson, mother of Australian poet, Henry Lawson,
in the 19th Century, and published in her Dawn
newspaper which she edited and ran out of Sydney,
for 17 years, employing only women. This demo
version of Hill of Death won Best Folk Gospel Song
at the Australian Gospel Song Awards. A new studio
recorded version is featured on the album
The Wind Cries Mary.

This videoclip was created by Joe Dolce and Peter Hosking
for the premiere of Nucountry TV on Channel 31 Melbourne.
This was a bonus multi-media track on the Joe Dolce album,
'freelovedays'. "I wanna smoke
some pot with this guy. Sweet song! "Pamzion
Blues Harp Harmonic Feedback Demonstration
This candid video wa shot from the audience during
a performance and shows the use of harmonic
feedback for the blues harp which can extend it's upper range
by between one and two octaves. Ideal
for improvisation and playing atonally, with care, it can also
be used harmonically, such as in Fantah-C in
B-Minor on the 'Memoirs of a Mouth Organ' CD. The technique
was pioneered
and developed as part of a commission by the Castlemaine State
Festival for
Dolce Chamberblues, a 45 minute work for blues harmonica
and string quartet.

Inspired Shaddap You Face Contest (2006) (2 excerpts)
Held at the National Folk Festival in Canberra, Australia,
in 2006, special invited festival artists were asked to
perform their interpretations of Shaddap You Face. Joe
hosted the event. Here are two instrumental excerpts,
the first by Peter Grayling, with a cello fantasia on the
theme, and the second by the winner of the event,
The Canberra Celtic Pipes, complete with Highland Fling!

Shaddap You Face - The Beginning
(Dolce)
Extremely rare 'live' mono footage of an early performance of
Shaddap You Face,
in May 1980, long before the song was recorded and released. The
venue was
the Catch a Rising Star cabaret in Richmond, VIC, and the
backing house band
is the same band that was later used on the recording. This Australian
audience
had never heard of this song before and this film captures the
playfulness and
improvisational aspects of the way it all originated. It was never
performed the same
way twice. The sound and picture are slightly degenerated but
the magic of the
performance is still there.
