Elegy for Eric
Eric Von Baeyer plays his cello
in the evening,
At his home in Cleveland Heights,
Ohio, he could
Lose himself in
Music,
Playing,
Perhaps,
Bach.
Doctor Von Baeyer used to have musicians
over,
In the ballroom, a string quartet
or maybe
Poetry-to-music,
On a
Winter's
Afternoon.
Eric Von Baeyer bought me my first
good guitar, a
Martin six-string, from a pawnshop,
second-hand, I
Had to promise,
Not to
Sell it
While he was alive.
The times we played together,
We tried to build a bridge between
our generations.
A love of music was our strongest
thread.
Eric Von Baeyer passed away last
year,
I got a card from his son,
Who played Schubert at the funeral
Service and read
Poetry,
Eric
Would have liked that.
That old guitar that the Doctor
gave me, well, I
Finally sold it, I traded it for
a piano,
'Cause it always
Was a
Bit hard
On my fingers.
Now these two Friends are gone,
But to remind me on,
I thought, maybe, a song -
A love of music was our strongest
thread.
Eric Von Baeyer plays his cello
in the evening,
At his home in Cleveland heights,
Ohio, he could
Lose himself in
Music,
Playing,
Perhaps,
Bach.
