A Simpler Life

The books are dusty up upon the shelf.
The phone is ringing but I'm somewhere else.
I'd like to tell you what's been on my mind.
I've been thinking of a place where we could spend some time,
On the blue clouds above my mind.

Where you could paint a vase or draw a tree,
And I could write my autobiography,
And we could walk for miles and never tire.
In the evening, write a story or two by the fire.

A simpler life would be nice, don't you agree,
A peaceful place to be.
A much simpler life is awaiting if we dare,
I'd like to take you there.

We'll close up shop and pack a bag or two,
And drop the foks a card from me and you,
And give the t.v. to your Uncle John.
Forget the alarm clock, grab the teapot and come on.

A simpler life would be nice, don't you agree,
A peaceful place to be.
A much simpler life is awaiting if we dare,
I'd like to take you there.

The sun is up and the day is shining,
The dark clouds still have silver lining,
the stumbling blocks turn into stepping stones.
Take my hand, the river's gleaming,
It's all too real, I must be dreaming,
ah . . . . . . . . . . . .
I'd like to tell you what's been on my mind.
I've been thinking of a place where we could spend some time.

A simpler life would be nice, don't you agree,
A peaceful place to be.
A much simpler life is awaiting if we dare,
I'd like to take you there.

A simpler life would be nice.
