FAMILIAR RING

I just saw 'The Lord of the Rings'
And I really got lost there in the dark.
But when the lights went on
And all the people had gone
I just sat there heavy in my heart.

All the Hobbits and the Elves were so innocent.
And the Orcs were soul-less things
But real life's not as clear
As reflected in the mirror
Of movies like 'Lord of the Rings'.

Everybody thinks they're the Good Guys
And the Other Side's on the side of Evil.
For God's sake, when are we going to wake
And stop demonizing other peoples?

Now, Richard Wagner also found a 'Ring'
And some cunning gnomes called the 'Nibelung'
But that little golden band
Ended up on Hitler's hand
And six million burned before it was done.

Everybody thinks they're the Good Guys
And the other side are the ones that's Evil.
For God's sake, when are we going to wake
And stop demonizing other peoples?

Some folks are calling the U.S. 'The Great Satan',
Once the 'Land of the Free and Home of the Brave'
They're screaming in the streets
Burning effigies
And they'd like to put every American in their grave.

Everybody thinks they're the Good Guys
And the other side's the Axis of Evil.
For God's sake, when are we going to wake
And stop demonizing other peoples?
