If 6 Turned Out to Be 9
‘Scuse me, while I kiss the sky.’
Jimi Hendrix
Hi folks,
‘Will the wind ever remember the names it has blown in the past . . . .?
I thought this week, I would bring you a selection of the rare Jimi Hendrix Experience footage that I’ve been watching in awe.
‘I just want to talk to you. I won't uh, do you no harm, I just want to know about your different lives, on this here people farm.’
‘Lest we forget . . . the heights that contemporary music once reached. And will again.
‘After all the jacks are in their boxes, and the clowns have all gone to bed . . .’
Before we got bogged down in Americana/Australiana Idol.
‘And soon enough time will tell, about the circus in the wishing well..’
But now it’s no longer sufficient to just play the guitar.
‘Wait a minute something's wrong here, that key won't unlock the door.’
It’s no longer sufficient to even set a guitar on fire.
‘I know, I know, you'll probably scream n' cry that your little world won't let go . .’
Time to lift the bar.
‘And so castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually. .’
It’s time to set the ORCHESTRA on fire.
‘It's very far away, it takes about half a day, to get there, if we travel by..... dragonfly.’
I know. I know: ‘Shaddap You . . . . . . not necessarily stoned, but beautiful.’

FAVOURITE LETTERS OF THE WEEK
Hi Joe,
Thanks for all these emails throughout the year. I have thoroughly enjoyed receiving them.
Have a great Christmas and stay safe.Regards, Rehana
Hi Joe,
Re Totally Like Whatever, You Know?
I work for an academic journal and there's nothing like a question mark in an article title - even when those titles aren't like, you know, questions? - that make my blood pressure rise!
Thanks so much for sharing that. I'm tempted to slip it into the august pages of our journal!! Cheers – whatever, Margaret Walters
Joe,
Now that’s a ghetto blaster! Love your work m8 …! Luv Carnzy

Joe,
Glen Swartz sounds to me like a crashing bore- no matter how good the music why would you subject yourself to some sort of Oral Roberts crusade. Let me know if he ever comes to Australia so I can avoid his shows. Bigruss, the bigo
(Note: Yeah Russ, in my opinion, Glenn Swartzenegger’s guitar playing has degenerated to about the same level as his xenophobic world view which I find embarrassing and tragic. He was once part of a much more positive Christian group called the All Saved Freak Band. Here’s an account from their website: “Larry first met Glenn when the latter was on tour in Buffalo with Pacific Gas and Electric one year before their song, 'Are You Ready?,' hit America's top-10 music charts. The original guitarist for the James Gang, Glenn was voted one of the top guitarists in the country by trade magazines of the day. Labeled "the white Hendrix" by the California media he would also be identified as the "Blue Messiah" by Cleveland's Free Times Newspaper. Recruited from the Backroom of Faragher's bar on Taylor Road in Cleveland Heights, Glenn's presence brought instant credibility to ASFB. In February 1975, after Glenn's family grew concerned about the deteriorating social conditions at the church's communal farm, they had him kidnapped for an intense, three day "deprogramming" effort by famed cult deprogrammer, Ted Patrick. The attempt was unsuccessful and the Band issued their third album, Brainwashed in, as what one ex-member termed, "a cynical response" to critics of the band’s lifestyle.”)

New Videoclips on YouTube
INTIMACY
This is the video clip for ‘Intimacy’ from The Terminator. It was written by Lin Van Hek and myself. Originally directed by Chris Lofven and Chris Worrell, I re-edited it slightly, with Village Roadshow Australia, for the movie’s launch party, using original trailer footage of the Terminator BEFORE the film was released. Who knew? Crank the volume up on this one – it kicks butte.

This is an old Mark Gillespie song that we used to perform in our set.

THE MOON THE DARKNESS AND YOU
The next one, written by Kath Tait, is a tad racy for youTube, I know, but still quite beautiful and we decided to put it out there and see what happens.
(Most likely it will be taken down soon so enjoy it while you can. Shades of DH Lawrence.)

Pranav Mistry: The thrilling potential of 'SixthSense' technology
Get ready to look at the future of computers and the whole ball of wax. Mind boggling breakthroughs in what’s to come. And it will be Open Sourced (ie free!)
At TEDIndia, Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data -- including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper "laptop".
In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he'll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

Aussie Redback Spiders Invading Japan
Australia's venomous redback spiders are on the march in Japan, where they are believed to have arrived years ago as stowaways on cargo ships, a wildlife expert has warned.
Redbacks have infested the Osaka region and are drawing closer to the capital Tokyo, according to Japan Wildlife Research Centre official Toshio Kishimoto.

~ FAMOUS DOLCES OF THE WORLD ~
Chef Dolce Debbie
Growing up in Houston, Debbie established herself early on as the family cook. Always possessed by a certain creative flair, she is also a classically trained pianist. Her affection for Italian cuisine blossomed around another love affair with husband Barry. His mother, Maria Louisa, was born in Treviso, and passed on centuries of food traditions and family recipes to her new daughter-in-law. In the following years, living in Venice and during extensive travel throughout the countryside, Debbie perfected her taste and technique for authentic Italian cooking. Using techniques she learned at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), she incorporates into these traditions her ever evolving personal style to offer a unique blend of Old World decadence and modern practicality. Based in the Tampa Bay area, Debbie’s personal interests include competing in local running events, including the 2007 and 2008 Disney marathon. In addition to her work with Savory Adventures, she also participates in local food events, hosts cooking shows, and appears on FOX 13 Tampa Bay, WTSP-CBS, and the nationally syndicated Daytime TV show. Debbie has written for the Tampa Tribune, is a featured publisher for Foodbuzz.com, and has been listed as one of the top 25 chefs to follow on Twitter.

RECIPE
OSSO BUCO
I made this last week with mashed potatoes on the side. Perfect recipe and the sauce, which is very light but flavourful, can be thickened slightly and served the next day with gnocchi made from any leftover mash.
10 pieces veal shank, 4 cm thick
plain flour, seasoned with salt & pepper
60 ml olive oil
60 g butter
1 garlic clove
1 small carrot, finely chopped
1 large onion, finely chopped
½ celery stalk, finely chopped
250 ml dry white wine
375 ml veal or chicken stock
400 g tin of chopped tomatoes
half teas red chili flakes
bouquet garni
Tie each piece of veal shank around its girth to secure the flesh, then dust with the seasoned flour. Heat the oil, butter and garlic in a large heavy saucepan big enough to hold the shanks in a single layer. Put the shanks in the saucepan and coo for 12-15 minutes until well browned. Remove the shanks from the saucepan and set aside. Discard the garlic.
Add the carrot, onion and celery to the saucepan and cook over moderate hear for 5-6 minutes without browning. Increase the heat to high, add the wine and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the stock, tomatoes, red chili flakes and bouquet garni. Season with salt and pepper.
Return the veal shanks to the saucepan standing them up in a single layer. Cover the pan and reduce the heat and simmer for 1 our or until the meat is render and you can cut it with a fork.
If you prefer a thicker sauce remove the veal shanks and increase the heat. Boil the sauce until reduced and thickened then return the veal to the saucepan. Discard the bouquet garni and taste for salt and pepper.
Bouquet garni: Tie a bay leaf, some thyme, parsley and some celery leaves in a small piece of muslin and tie with string.
The Almanac of Last Things
From the almanac of last things
I choose the spider lily
for the grace of its brief
blossom, though I myself
fear brevity,
but I choose The Song of Songs
because the flesh
of those pomegranates
has survived
all the frost of dogma.
I choose January with its chill
lessons of patience and despair--and
August, too sun-struck for lessons.
I choose a thimbleful of red wine
to make my heart race,
then another to help me
sleep. From the almanac
of last things I choose you,
as I have done before.
And I choose evening
because the light clinging
to the window
is at its most reflective
just as it is ready
to go out.

Joe Dolce current CD, 'The Wind Cries Mary,' chosen as ALBUM OF THE YEAR by 97.1 FM, 3MDR Radio, Melbourne!
" [The Wind Cries Mary] cements Dolce's reputation as one of the country's premier songwriters. His lyrical compositions are delightful to listen to, the words fit together like a perfect puzzle and while their contrast to the music and their rhythmic sense is appealing, it is also the stories behind the songs that are beautiful. . ." THE FINAL HURRAH
A drover from a huge cattle station in outback Australia appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates.
"Have you ever done anything of particular merit?" St. Peter asked.
"Well, I can think of one thing," the drover offered.
"Once, on a trip to the backblocks of Broken Hill out in New South Wales,
I came across a gang of bikers who were threatening a young sheila.
I told them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen.
So I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed bikie and smacked him in his face,
kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground.
I yelled, "Now, back off!! Or I'll kick the shit out of the lot of ya!"
St. Peter was impressed, "When did this happen?"
"A couple of minutes ago."
