Participation in Walks

Walking with a group of people is a great way to exercise and provides an opportunity for socal interaction with other people.

The walking infrastructure we use includes footpaths, nature strips, streets, roads, cycle paths and walking tracks and trails.

We share this infrastructure with other walkers, cyclists, rollerbladers and motorists among others.

If you are planning to walk with our group you may need to do some shorter walks to build your level of physical fitness for the longer walks we do.

We walk on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays each week and you need to visit our website for details of the walks we are doing. This will give you details of meeting places and times and degree of difficulty of walks.

If you are interested in any of the walks feel free to come along.

Be sure to wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring your mobile, water and any other items you require.

Listen to anything the walk leader has to say about the walk and meet the walkers.

Walk with other members of the group and let the walk leader or another responsible member of the group know if you are unwell or wish to leave a walk.

It is important that you follow safe walking practices.

You need to be aware that footpaths may be cracked, broken or uneven due to tree roots and that there may be soil or litter on footpaths and cycle tracks which can become slippery due to rain or watering.

Be alert for vehicle entering and leaving driveways and for other users.

You need to exercise particular care when walking on cycle paths.

If the cycle path has a white line running down the middle of it this is an instruction to you to keep to the left of that line.  Cyclists often approach from behind at speed and do not ring their bells so you need to look behind you before you change the direction you are walking in.

Likewise you need to walk along the side of roads and obey traffic lights when crossing roads and streets.
