Images information Generally, photos off the internet are too low in resolution to be used for print purposes. A screen resolution of 72dpi is used for the internet, where as magazine images require 300dpi. Newspapers generally require 240dpi for colour and 180dpi for mono photos. For optimum results the original file should be supplied. Photoshop is the 'industry standard' image editor but it is also very expensive. A great open source image editor is gimp. It has many of the same features of Photoshop at the best price possible - FREE! ________________________________________ BASIC ADJUST A PHOTO FOR PRESS REPRODUCTION using Photoshop. Open file - leave as is (don't colour manage) [OK] Image[menu]/Mode/RGB Colour [Ctrl L] for levels Select Channel: RGB from pull down Adjust Middle slider so blacks are still black in pic Adjust seperate R G & B Channels in same way if in a colour hue on the photo. for example: To reduce the yellow in your photos, open levels (ctrl + l), select the blue channel from the pulldown arrow (default RGB) at the top, drag the middle arrow under the graph to the left, but not too far or it will be too blue. You can adjust the end arrows for shadows - to the left and highlights at right. You can then revert back to the RGB channel to adjust the overall balance. Generally for RGB, each end should be near the start of where the graph begins, and then adjust the middle arrow, so the blacks are just black, and there's white highlights but still detail. Intensify colours by increasing saturation [Ctrl U]. Image[menu]/Image size (or use crop tool) Uncheck Resample Image (lower left) change Resolution to 72 pixels/inch adjust width or height [OK] Filter [menu]/sharpen if the pic looks blury [Ctl F] =apply sharpen again [Ctl Z] = toggles undo use the History pallet to undo further Save as JPEG uncheck ICC Profile: [OK] Image quality 5 - 6 (Higher quality = larger file/longer download.
