LOCATION
Found in Western New Guinea and adjacent Islands. Var wilhelminae is found in both east and west New Guinea highlands with elevations of 1700- 1800m and in heavy soil near rivers or lakes. P. glanduliferum grows on calcareous outcrops from sea level to 200m .

PLANT DESCRIPTION
4-6 leaves of up to 40cm in length and 3.5 - 5 cm in width. Leaves of var wilhelminae are smaller and growths are not clustered but borne upon a short rhizone.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
2-5 flowers on a flower scape of 30- 50 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate and acute. Yellow with a prominent purple stripe.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Smaller but similar.
PETALS
Yellow veined with maroon and their orientation is spreading to pendulous. The margins are sparsely fringed with cilia, proximally undulate and warty. Petals are helical.
LABELLUM
Yellow, flushed and veined with maroon. Var wilhelminae bears smaller flowers. Most frequently, marginal warts are absent from the petals as well.

LOCATION
Clings to volcanic slopes at elevations of 200 - 700 m in central to eastern Java and Sumatra. Var moquettianum is more often seen in south west Java.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
4-6 leaves, 20 - 30 cm long and 5 cm wide with bristles along the proximal margins. Upper surface varies from plain green to slight tesselations. Lower surface is densely spotted with purple.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
20 or more successive flowers with 2 flowers open at the same time only briefly if at all.
DORSAL SEPAL
Cream to green, flushed with yellow green in the centre and veined with maroon. Ovate to subcircular, obtuse, and pubescent on the back surface.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Similar but smaller.
PETALS
White with deep rose to maroon spots with eyelash like hairs along their margins. Petals are held horizontaly and twist at least one full turn, usually 1.5 turns. Linear in shape.
LABELLUM
Longer than broad. Pink to lavender and clustered with a fine stripping of maroon.  Var moquetteanum has slightly larger flowers lacking maroon veining but finely speckled with purple on its dorsal. Also less floriferous.

LOCATION
Inhabits coastal limestone cliffs at low elevations in humus filled crevices in the limestone. Found in South Vietnam, Burma and South Thailand and in the Gulf of Thailand. Var leucochilum is found on the eastern southern coast of Thailand.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
4-6 leaves, 13-14 cm in length and 3 cm in width. Dark green upper surface is tessellated with pale greyish green, while the light green underside is densely spotted with purple.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
1-2 flowers on  a peduncle of 3-8 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Twice as wide as long. Distinctly keeled and hooded with a rounded and notch at the apex. Dull white to creamy yellow, densely spotted with deep brownish-purple.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Nearly circular, smaller than the dorsal but the same colour.
PETALS
Rounded, often retuse or notched at the tip. Same colour.
 

 LABELLUM
Cream with spotting. Infolded side lobes meet and are closely spotted with tiny deep purple markings.

FLOWERING SEASON
Summer

Var leucochilum lacks spotting upon the lip.

 gratrixianum

LOCATION
Terrestrial found in Laos and Vietnam.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
4-7 leaves of up to 30 cm long and 2-2.5 cm in width. Leaves lack tessellation but bears purple spotting beneath.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Solitary flower up to 25 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Pale green basally, white above and bears bold purple to dark maroon spotting with a glossy appearance. Margins are subundulate and some what reflexed. It is ovate and subcircular.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Pale green, ovate to elliptic and about half as wide as the dorsal.
PETALS
Honey yellow, veined with purple and flushed with purple proximally. Tips maybe flushed with green. Spatulate in shape and held just below horizontal and curve forward. Margins are subundulate.
LABELLUM
Similar in colour to the petals with an expanded orifice and a tapered apex.

FLOWERING SEASON
Winter and Spring.
