LOCATION
Roots in detritus overlying volcanic substrates
at elevations of 750-2100m
in Java, Bali, Flores and Sumatra. Var virens
found in Borneo at elevations of 900-1650m.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Lightly tessellated with absence of purple pigmentation
underneath. Leaf length 10-25 cm long by 3.5-4cm wide.
FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Solitary flower on an inflorescence of 15-35cm..
DORSAL SEPAL
Greenish white with dark green stripes. Ovate
with lateral margins that are reflexed.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Lanceolate and pale green.
PETALS
Oblongate petals vary in orientation from nearly
horizontal to 45 degree below. Green in colour proximally, petal apices
are flushed rosy purple. Small blackish purple spots adorn the proximal
portion. Margins are ciliate.
LABELLUM
Green with darker green veins. A pale bronze
flush occurs near the frontal rim.
Var virens is predominantly green in colour with
less spotting.
