LOCATION
Grows on rocky outcrops at elevations of 1300-1600
m in Yunnan Provice, China.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Growths appear from an elongated under ground
rhizome spaced some 15-25 cm apart. The 7-8 leaves measure 10-20 cm in
length and 2.5-5 cm wide. Dark green, boldly tessellated with pale
green above and heavily spotted with purple beneath.
FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Solitary flower at a height of 30 cm or more.
DORSAL SEPAL
Tear drop shaped and apically acuminate. Concolour
apple green.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Bidentate at the top and bicarinate. Similar
to the dorsal.
PETALS
Apically acute and similar in shape and size
to the petals. Narrow stripes of maroon start at the base and go within
a few millimetres of their tips.
LABELLUM
Subspheroid with corrugations at the involute
margins. It is spotted maroon within and translucent so the spots are visible
through the pouch walls.

Autumn & Winter.
LOCATION
Grows on sheer scarps at elevations of 900-2000m
on the Maluccan Islands.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Tessellated leaves measuring 20-30 cm in length.
No purple pigmentation underneath.

INFLORESCENCE
Solitary flower on a peduncle of 20-37.5 cm in
height.
DORSAL SEPAL
Broadly ovate, acute dorsal is apple green veined
with slightly darker green. The margin is creamy white and ciliated.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Yellow green and proportionally smaller.
PETALS
Spatulate petals are copper to maroon red paling
proximally to yellow or yellow green below the mid-vein. Both the mid-vein
and the upper margin are more or less warty. Proximally the petals bare
scattered cilia. Held nearly horizontal ,the upper distal margin of the
petal typically exhibits a wide, indented undulation.
LABELLUM
Pale chestnut brown and often speckled with small
purple dots. The tip of the toe is the same colour as the petal.
FLOWERING SEASON
Spring and early Summer.
The species is highly variable so that in both colour and size some forms may be inferior to the following description. Flowers double normal size maybe tetraploids.

Prefers limestone outcrops in Yunnan Province,
China.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Foliage is very dark green, mottled with pale
green above, the under surfaces are densely spotted with purple. Leaves
are 5-15cm long and 1.5-2 cm wide.

INFLORESCENCE
Solitary flower at height of 9-20cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate and acute. Basally,the colour is yellow
but reticular veins of rose create a network across the dominant, parallel
rose veins,and rose suffuses the margins as well.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Bicarinate ventral is apically bidentate. Colour
and dimensions similar to the dorsal.
PETALS
Subcircular and acute to rounded at the apex.
Veining and colouration similar to the dorsal although the marginal bands
of rose colour are somewhat wider.
LABELLUM
Broadly inflated, ellipsoid, pale to deep rosy
pink. Its margins are involute and rugose. Purple spotting adorns the inner
pouch walls.
