LOCATION
Humus lithophyte upon calcareous rock, loosely rooted in the detritus collected in crevices at elevations of 150-600 m in Borneo.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
Dark green leaves reach lengths of 30-45 cm with width of 5 cm.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
2-5 flowers on a 45 cm peduncle.
DORSAL SEPAL
The acute dorsal is lanceolate. Yellow heavily striped with deep maroon.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Bicarinate and smaller. Similar colour to dorsal.
PETALS
Pendulous and ribbonlike. Basically the petals are cream to yellow in colour, warted and ciliate on the undulate margins and spotted with maroon. They taper and twist along their length and become deep maroon in colour throughout the distal three-quarters.
LABELLUM
Flushed with maroon above and yellow below its pointed apex.

Spring.

LOCATION
A humus epiphyte found in open woodlands near sea level on the island of Sulawesi in the Celebes.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
4 boldly tessellated leaves which measure up to 28 cm long and 5 cm wide.
 
FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Unifloral inflorescence up to 25 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
The narrowly ovate,acuminate dorsal has a ground colour of creamy yellow. A dark green basal portion extends green venation over the mesial band of the dorsal.
VENTRAL SEPAL
The ventral is yellowish green overlaid with green stripes.
PETALS
The pendant petals bear crisp undulation along their upper margins. Petals colour is purple in the centre but the margins and round the apices are apple green.
LABELLUM
Resembles Paph venustum in colour shape and venation. Somewhat greenish cream in colour it is marked with incised veins of green.

LOCATION
Inhabits near vertical cliffs of the river gorges at elevations of 300-1300m in northeast India and northwest Burma.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
Green with purple spotting on the under surface basally. 20 cm long and 2 cm wide.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Primarily a solitary flowerer with a peduncle up to 25cm in length.
DORSAL SEPAL
White with a broad basal suffussion of apple green and is marked with a prominent central stripe of maroon from base to apex. Narrow basally and terminating apically in two, large rounded lobes. It reflexes basally with the side lobes bent forward to form a hood.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Greenish white, ovate and pubescent upon the reverse surface.
PETALS
Yellowish green with some faint brown suffusion. The midvein is maroon or brown. The superior margins are crisply undulate. Held just below horizontal and curve forward. Linear in shape, tapering very slightly.
LABELLUM
Green, suffused with khaki or brown and veined with brown.

Autumn and early Winter.

LOCATION
Grows at an elevation of 60-500m where it clings to calcareous cliffs. Frequently roots in lythophytic mosses in Borneo.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
Green leaves up to 70cm in length and 5 cm in width.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
2-4 flowers on an erect inflorescence up to 70 cm in height.
DORSAL SEPAL
White and bears a pair of vertical stripes of blackish maroon on either side of the mid-vein. Reverse side is heavily stained with maroon. Ovate to subcordate in shape and apically acute.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Similar but smaller.
PETALS
The elongated linear and tapering petals arch downward distally. The distal portion exhibits some twisting. Sparse ciliar fringe both margins, proximally. Yellow and proximally spotted and barred with maroon while the distal  portions are stained maroon.
LABELLUM
Yellow or cream beneath. Blushed rose frontally and veined with maroon.

Late Summer and early Autumn.

LOCATION
Found in loamy soil on slopes at elevations up to 1,000 m in northeast Thailand.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
Tessellated  leaves with purple dots underneath. Leaf length of up to 25 cm and 5 cm width.

 FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
A solitary flower on a peduncle up to 25 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
The broadly ovate dorsal is white with 11 to 13 intensely green veins which extend to the margins. Between the longer veins are 4-8 shorter veins. Sparse purple spots adorn the base of the dorsal. It is strongly conduplicate and concave. Its acute apex hoods the pouch orifice to some extent.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Smaller and similarly coloured.
PETALS
The oblongate petals are held very near horizontal. Petal colour is apple green with many maroon spots. Both margins are hirsute.
LABELLUM
Green beneath with a rich flush of copper or hirsute mahogany over the frontal surface. Reticulate veins of chestnut brown adorn the lip.

LOCATION
Found as a lithophyte at elevations of 600-960 m in Borneo.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
Dark green leaves reach lengths of up to 55 cm and 3.5-5.5 cm wide.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
3-5 flowers at a height of up to 45cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate tapering to an acute apex. Maroon stripes overlay a cream or buff ground colour which is sometimes faintly suffused with green.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Similar to the dorsal although the maroon stripes are considerably narrower.
PETALS
Pendulous petals are of the same pale colour as the sepals with spots and bars of maroon. The proximal margins are warted, undulate and ciliate. Toward the apices the petals are helical at least one turn. An inequilateral elongation of the superior and inferior margins gives them a curled, almost deformed appearance.
LABELLUM
Pale creamy buff beneath, flushed with maroon frontally.

LOCATION
Inhabits wooden slopes at elevations of 900-1300 m in North central Sumatra.

FLOWER DESCRIPTION
Heavily tessellated leaves bear some purple pigmentation upon their lower surface. Leaf. dimensions are 15-25 cm in length and 4-6.5 cm in width.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Unifloral and reaches a height of 15-25 cm
DORSAL SEPAL
Broadly ovate and apically acute. Pale greenish while its mid-section is flushed with pink. Venation of the dorsal merges from green to purple and back to green. Veins fade out to give a creamy green margin.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Ovate and elliptic and similar in colour and marking to the dorsal.
PETALS
The falcate petals are oblanceote and pendulous. Proximally their colour is green grading to rosy purple distally. Green veins run the length of the petals above the mid-vein, faint purple veins are exhibited below. Numerous purple spots are dispersed over the petal surfaces. Margins are ciliate and gently undulate. A quarter turn spiral occurs towards the distal apices.
LABELLUM
Dark maroon to mahogany with purple spotted and involute side lobes.

FLOWERING SEASON
Summer.
