PLANT DESCRIPTION
Richly tessellated light and dark green above,
mottled with purple beneath and 12.5 - 25 cm long by 2.5 - 5 cm wide.

INFLORESCENCE
Solitary flower on a flower scape up to 25 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate, acute dorsal sepal is white striped with
dark green.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Greenish white and similar to dorsal but smaller.
PETALS
Oblanceolate petals are greenish white proximally
with green veins, distally the apical third is flushed purple or coppery
orange and recurved. Several large blackish purple warts adorn the transitional
mid-region. Held very nearly horizontal.
LABELLUM
Yellow with some purple or copper suffusion.
Distinct green veins impart a puckered appearance.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
Tessellated above and basally spotted beneath.

INFLORESCENCE
20 or more successive flowers and reaches lengths

DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate dorsal bears a cream or pale yellow margin
and has a rich green centre striped with veins of maroon. Cilia adorn the
margin.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Smaller than the dorsal and has no white margin.
PETALS
Twisted and have eyelash like hairs upon the
margins. Petal margins are reddish purple or reddish brown while the central
portion is green or cream with narrow red veins. Held horizontally they
recurve to a variable degree.
LABELLUM
Long and tapering. Purple in colour, with a distinctive
green pouch rim with sole spotting only found on the side lobes of the
pouch.

Epiphytic on tree roots and lithophytic on limestone
outcrops among sandstone cliffs at elevations of 700-2000 m in Northern
Sumatra.

measure 30-40 cm long by 5-7 cm wide.

DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate to subcircular. Margins are undulate to
smooth and yellow-green to cream in colour. Centrally suffused with deeper
green and veined with dark maroon stripes.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Similar marking but narrower.
PETALS
Spiral petals are held horizontally and bears
numerous cilia upon the margins. Yellow to cream, spotted and veined in
dark purple. Recurving at the petal apices.
LABELLUM
Inflated distally but is longer than wide. Pink
with a white margin with dense purple spotting.

LOCATION
Epiphytic although also occurs as a lithophyte
or as a humus terrestrial rooting in mossy substrates upon steep slopes
at elevations of 1,100-2,000 m from India, Burma, Thailand and Laos. Var
boxalli from Burma.
Leaves are 14 - 45 cm in length, 2.5 - 4 cm wide with under surface spotted with purple.
FLOWER DESCRIPTION
INFLORESCENCE
Single flower on a peduncle to 25 cm.
DORSAL SEPAL
Green marginally and flushed with purple to brown
suffusion basally. Var boxalili has raised purple spots on the dorsal.
Ovate to elliptic but appears narrow due to the reflexion of its lateral
margins.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Ovate shape and is green. Its orientation varies
from close appression to undersurface of the pouch to a backward angle
which emphasizes the broken back appearance of the flower.
PETALS
The spatulate petals are held horizontally and
curve forward around the belly of the pouch to a variable degree. The midvein
is marked with a deep red stripe. Above the mid-vein the colour is rich
terracotta or brownish maroon. The lower section is khaki with some degree
of reddish suffusion. Purple hairs adorn the proximal petal surfaces. Upper
margins are undulated.
LABELLUM
Tawny, honey yellow, flushed with rose or reddish
brown. Elongate and tapers apically.

Found at elevations from 200 - 1,200 m in New
Guinea.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Tessellated foliage with a predominance of pale
green over the darker green. Leaf lengths vary between 7.5 cm to 25 cm
long and 2.5 - 4 cm wide.

INFLORESCENCE
Single flower on 20- 30 cm inflorescence.
DORSAL SEPAL
Apically acute dorsal is small although broadly
ovate. Greenish white with vivid green stripes. A small blotch of purple
extending as a purple stripe marks the mid-vein. Basal reflexion of the
margins is not pronounced.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Ovate and green with darker green stripes.
PETALS
Distinctive and lacks spotting but are suffused
with a fairly uniform violet colour except for the proximal third which
is pink or white. Oblongate, the petals arch downward crescentically
and bears short cilia upon their margins.
LABELLUM
Bulbous pouch is grooved by its veins, white
near the aperture, flushed brown frontally and green beneath.

LOCATION
Grows on granite outcrops at elevations of 1,100
- 1,850 m in moist shady areas on the Island of Bougainville, Solomons.
PLANT DESCRIPTION
Faint tessellations on the leaves, no purple
underneath.

DORSAL SEPAL
Ovate, acute dorsal is white with brilliant green
stripes. Basal margins are reflexed.
VENTRAL SEPAL
Concave and similiarly coloured.

Oblanceolate petals are broad and arch downward.
Background colour is white with green stripes that merge to form a green
region proximally and change to pale pink distally. Margins are ciliate.
LABELLUM
Green veined in darker green.
