The display in Saturday drew a lot of
interest
and swelled the numbers for the poker run in the afternoon. Two hundred
and twelve entrants set off in two sections from Stirling Terrace in
the poker run at about 12.45.
Motorcycles ages ranged from 1913 through to
the present day. The run finished with afternoon tea at the Albany
Rifle Club. The poker run winners were: best hand - Anthony Mustey with
four Aces, second-best hand was Fred Powell and worst hand was won by
Antoinet Glazema.
The evening saw 125 people sit down at the
barbecue. Three D Caterers did an excellent job once again.
On Sunday the 1st November 100
Vintage & Veteran motorcycles
challenged the hill on Apex Drive.
Once again the oldest bike on the course was a
1913 Bradbury which had come all the way from New South Wales. This
year saw many more interstate riders entered with their bikes.
The outright winner was No 42 - Bernie
Ellerby
on a 1972 BSA 650, who had nominated a time of 37 seconds and lost 0.14
of a second in the last run.
Best performance by a male other than the
winner was No 84 - Des Lewis on a 1978 Yamaha 400, who had nominated 38
seconds and lost 0.41 seconds on the last run.
Best performance by a female was No 37 - Chris
Rees on a 1955 Sunbeam, nominating a time of 1.04 and lost 2.6 seconds
throughout the day.
Best performance by a sidecar was won by No 21-
Clive Oakes and Dawn Williams on a 1975 Honda nominating 44 seconds and
lost 2.6 seconds through the rest of the day.
Best Pre-60 rider was No 67 Ken Vincent, an
encouragement award was given to Ryan Hart, and it was Ryan’s first
ride on the hill.
Best presented bike went to Huw Jones,
who had
just painted his bike finishing the restoration. One of our visitors
decided the hill was not enough of a challenge, so when he left the
hill, he took a wrong turning (so he says - a likely story) and went
for a
ride around the boardwalk footpath to Middleton Beach.
We had record numbers coming through the gate. Perhaps one of the highlights of the day was when a gust of wind blew the scaffolding down at lunchtime and no-one was hurt. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that helped to make this weekend the success that it was, and hope you support the club again next year..
