With the annual Pink Ribbon Ride on the
calendar, we decided to have a
“think-tank” also a good excuse for coffee and cake, so Chris, Tammy,
Jo and myself got together & came up with a different format
for our ride this year.
The weather was brilliant on Sunday
morning,
just the kind of day we
all had been hoping for. It was a very “pink” gathering when we
all met at the info bay as there were a lot of interestingly decorated
bikes and people which all looked fantastic and went toward
creating a great atmosphere for the day.
Everyone generously paid their $15 for the day.
This included lunch
this year, a ticket in the raffle, good company of course and a great
ride.
With approximately 75 people on bikes and
looking very festive and
fetching in pink, we headed out of town on the Chester Pass Road to
Kamballup where we turned left along the Woogenellup Road into Mt
Barker.
Here we had a stop for morning tea at the
local
bakery.
Shane had advised the bakery there would be a large group of us for
coffee and morning tea and they had put on extra staff and were very
happy to have us there. The food was excellent and it’s great place to
stop.
There were a few club members waiting at the
bakery for us
on arrival who kindly donated to the day although unable to join us for
the ride.
We
then
headed out the Muir Highway, turned
left at the Denbarker Rd
and had a great ride to the South Coast Highway turned towards
Albany, then back into town along the Lower Denmark Rd.
Our destination for lunch was The Princess
Royal Sailing Club in Little
Grove. This had been arranged courtesy of Russell and Jo, who are
members of the Sailing club. This was an excellent venue for lunch with
great views over the harbour.
What a wonderful job Marilyn, Betty and
Yvonne had done of setting up the room with pink flowers in vases and
on the tables with pink napkins. It looked the part. They had also
heated up the soup, set up coffee and tea, cakes etc and had basically
had everything ready to go. A big thank you to them for doing this.
At our think-tank we had decided to have soup
and rolls, slices or
cake with coffee and tea, so we ended up with a delicious array of
soups and slices all prepared by generous club members. This seemed
to be a popular decision and was enjoyed by everyone.
We had a vast array of great prizes to
be won
in the raffle and below
is listed our generous sponsors this year. Once again we all enjoyed
the day and in doing so raised of $1440.00
which was a very generous effort on behalf of everyone.
