Dirt Skills Day

We had perfect weather on fathers' day 2012. The idea was to teach some balancing skills and practice them in trials sections.

The first thing to learn was the correct posture on the bike to get good control and balance. Syd showed some understanding but had directional problems.

Once Syd got going in the right direction, he showed unswerving dedication to the idea of keeping your weight on the outside peg no matter what.

There was plenty to keep the spectators occupied, with some paparazzi-type activities being evident when crashes occurred.

Bob was going well with the largest capacity bike until he found it necessary to park in a drop-in section. But he didn't fall off.

It was then a good social activity to unpark the bike.

The hill turn section didn't cause as many problems, with people using clutch control, keeping momentum rolling and weight forward.

In the Z-turn section Chris' mount got balky, stalled, and had a lie-down. A determined Chris got straight back up and carried on when the steed had cooled.

By the last section, riders were starting to get tired and some got stuck on the strategically-placed tree-root.

Finally, at the end of the event Daniel revealed his reason for doing so well on his new bike: an analog voice-controlled rider assist package.
