Organisation of a Slaanesh Army

This is something that was started at the B&C - Slaanesh Forum. MANY thanks go to Refuse for getting such thinking going, and anyone else who contributed their 2 cents (and equivalents)

The Emperor's Children Legion is the most widely known example of an army devoting itself to the worship of Slaanesh, the Prince of Pleasure. However, there are other 'armies' other than the Emperor's Children that are devoted to Slaanesh.

A typical Emperor's Children force will be quite similar to the 'standard' chaos force, I.e. the Black Legion. However, the Emperor's Children force is not exactly the same as a Black Legion one, in that, Obliterator and Raptor cults are not utilized, and there are no daemonic beasts spawned from Slaanesh available.

Weapons wise, the Emperor's Children will still use an assortment of weapons, many warriors still armed with the standard bolter. In Chaos Space Marine units and Havoc units, special and heavy weapons are still utilized, such as the Plasma Gun and the Lascannon. Additionally, some Chaos Marines have opted to use the standard weapons of the Noise Marines, the Sonic Weapons. These weapons include the Sonic Blaster, the Blastmaster and the Doom Siren. Although these Chaos Marines opt to use these weapons, it is no indication that these Marines are perverted to the degree of a Noise Marine, however they do believe the Sonic Weapons aid in providing them with new pleasurable sensations.

The Emperor's Children is the main example of a cult following the Prince of Pleasure, however many 'sub-cults' exist. These sub-cults do contain past Chaos Marines from the Emperor's Children, but their perversions have led them deeper and deeper into the worship of Slaanesh.

Current sub-cults include:

These sub-cults are indeed smaller than the 'main' cult represented by the Emperor's Children; however each sub-cult is still a formidable force. Each sub-cult is highly specialized, for example the Cult of Sonics, more commonly known as Noise Marines are marines who only use Sonic-Based weapons.

Cult of 'Sonics' aka Noise Marines

Marines of this sub-cult have the name Noise Marines. Some of these Noise Marines have origins in the original Emperor's Children Legion, while others have different beginnings. Some Marines have been faithful servants to Slaanesh and have chosen to join the Cult of 'Sonics' while others were once Chaos Marines of other Legions who turned to Slaanesh and have in turn turned to the Cult of Sonics. All Noise Marines go into battle wielding a form of Sonic Weaponry. Most will go into battle utilizing the Sonic Blaster, while an elite few will proudly carry the Blastmaster. Some Noise Marines, will utilize the Doom Siren, however these Noise Marines are vicious and savage warriors and will often be armed with close combat orientated weapons.

Some Noise Marines will also walk into battle with Alternative Sonic Weapons. As Noise Marines have a disliking towards the convential weapons utilised by Chaos Armies, they have created their own Sonic-based homologues. Although each weapon is sonic-based it still possesses the same strength as the conventional weapons in most Chaos armies, and aids a Noise Marine force by giving them access to some stronger weapons, without diverging from their strong beliefs.

Cult of 'Close Combat'

Similarly to Noise Marines, these Marines have a specialized force. Where Noise Marines use Sonic Weapons, these Marines fully rely on Pistols and Close Combat Weapons. Many of the Marines of this cult are vicious and savage warriors, gaining their pleasures in the thickest of all assaults. Standard Armaments for these marines are typically the Bolt Pistol and Chainsword. Some Marines are known to swap their Bolt Pistol for the stronger Plasma Pistol, despite the risks involved. Any marine that performs such an upgrade fully understands the risk behind the use of plasma-based weapons, but only focuses on the feelings and sensations gained from the risk of using such weapons. As the hierarchy moves higher into the Marines who have been rewarded with the title of Aspiring Champion, weapon changes occur yet again. Some will choose to discard their bolt pistol for the Plasma Pistol, while some choose to upgrade their chainsword to the Power Sword. None the less, they make any attempt to arm themselves more effectively for close combat. In some cases, Slaanesh has smiled upon the Aspirant, and has gifted him or her with Daemonic Talons. Aspirants take great joy if they receive such gifts, for they know Slaanesh watches over them.

Although never fully researched, some believe that Possessed Chaos Marines are a further extension of Marines of this cult, typically those Possessed Marines gifted with Daemonic Talons. Some believe that these Marines have earned Slaanesh's watchful eye. Whether this is true or not, no one knows, but those Possessed Marines will often show the same viciousness and savagery that defines a Marine of this cult.

This cult also highly capitalizes on Slaanesh's favoured number of 6, with all and any units being comprised of only 6 Marines. By earning Slaanesh's favour, these units often carry Icons of Slaanesh, ready to bring forth the lesser daemons of Slaanesh, the Daemonettes. This cult delights in the use of Daemonettes, their orientation for assaults, often encouraging Marines of this cult to perform greater 'insane' acts for their Patron God, often relishing in the new sensations.

Cult of 'Drugs'

This cult tends to show a highly noticeable use of drugs throughout members of the cult. Where some Slaanesh followers use drugs to enhance their abilities for short periods or for recreational use, these cult members are beyond fanatical. Worlds that are held by these Marines are often used solely for the purpose of drug cultivation. Entire continents are often used as plant crops or for animal grazing. Once a planet has cultivated and been harvested of the drugs, the Marines will often leave the planet, the nutrients required to aid the plants or animals growth, often stripped. In some cases, the Marines will often leave after harvesting the drugs, not willing to waste time in re-seeding the planet for further cultivation.

Lords, Sorcerers, Lieutenants and Aspiring Champions are typically in possession of the drugs, and distribute them throughout their units as much as they can. This often leaves many Marines on a drug induced high, some after time, are permanently dependent on the drugs to gain any pleasurable sensation, while others are lucky enough to be on a permanent and consistent drug high.

Similar to the Cult of Close Combat, these Marines will often charge into battle fielding only Pistols and Close Combat weapons. This has led to the theory that this cult may be a further division of the Cult of Close Combat, similar to Possessed Marines.

Cult of 'Possession'

In this cult, many Marines enjoy any form of blessings bestowed upon them by their Patron God Slaanesh. However, within this Cult, Possession is far much more. There are very few 'normal' Marines; as Slaanesh has favoured them and gifted them with Daemonic attributes. Any Marine that doesn't show any sign of Daemonic Favour often serves as Daemonhosts. Although they aren't favoured like their Cult Brothers and Sisters, they still serve an important role. This Cult contains no Lord, as all Lords are elevated to the position of Daemon Prince. Sorcerers and Lieutenants also aspire to become Daemon Princes or Princesses, and will show many gifts bestowed by Slaanesh. All and any Marines under the Daemon Prince will clearly be gifted, with units being organised on a gift by gift basis. Some Possessed, typically gifted with Daemonic Talons, have been theorised by some that their origins lie in this Cult, while some others speculate their origins in the Cult of Close Combat; no one is certain.
