Crested Shrike-tit

Falcunculus frontatus

Uncommon in the south west.  Seen at Dryandra State Forest, Boyagin Rock, Flynn Road.  Rare in the north Kimberley.  Reported along the road to the Mitchell Plateau.

Common in the dry inland.  Seen at Shark Bay, Paraburdoo, Exmouth, Carnarvon, Yalgoo, Cue, Warne River, Hyden, Dryandra State Forest, Fitzgerald River and McDermid Rock.

Gilbert’s Whistler

Seen at Warne River and along the road between Hyden and Norseman near McDermid Rock.

Fairly common south west of the line from Shark Bay to Eucla.  Much easier to find when calling.  Seen at Rottnest Island, Garden Island, Bungendore State Forest, Dryandra State Forest and Stirling Ranges.

Fairly common in mangroves north of Shark Bay.  Seen at Miaboolya Beach, Mangrove Bay near Exmouth, Port Hedland, Broome, Derby, Kimberley Coastal Camp and Wyndham.

Fairly common in rainforest patches in the north Kimberley and adjacent mangroves.  Seen at St Patrick’s Island, Sale River and Kimberley Coastal Camp.

Very common at Kimberley Coastal Camp.  Seen at Windjana Gorge, The Grotto, Bungle Bungle National Park, Argyle Diamond Mine and Hidden Valley.

Occurs in most of WA. Common in the south west and south.  Common at Broome.  Uncommon in Kununurra and Argyle Diamond Mine.  The call in the Kimberley is different to the south west.

Fairly common in mangroves in the Kimberley.  Seen at Broome, Derby, St Patrick's Island, Kimberley Coastal Camp and Wyndham.

Uncommon in the Kimberley mostly in rocky areas.  Seen at Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge, Kimberley Coastal Camp, The Grotto and near Kununurra.  Reported occasionally at Broome.

Satin Flycatcher

Very rare vagrant to WA.  An immature female was reported at Twilight Cove near Eyre Bird Observatory in April 1973.

Uncommon in riverine forest and mangroves in the Kimberley.  Fairly common on the Dunham River near Kununurra.  Seen at Wyndham, Kimberley Coastal Camp and St Patrick's Island.

Fairly common in open woodland in the south west.  Seen at Dryandra State Forest, Stirling Ranges, Beaufort River and Flynn Road.  'Paperbark race' nana common to very common in the Kimberley.

Very common in most of WA.  The call is different throughout the state, especially the Kimberley compared to the south west.

Occurs in coastal vine thicket / rainforest patches in the north Kimberley.  Two seen at Walsh Point at Port Warrender near the Kimberley Coastal Camp.

Occurs in most of WA.  Very common in the south west.  I have seen it as far north as Nallan Station.  Rare to uncommon in the Kimberley.

Common in mangroves north of Shark Bay.  Distinguish from Grey Fantail by thin breast band.

Northern Fantail

Uncommon to fairly common in most of the Kimberley especially in rocky areas and gullies.  Seen at Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge, Isdell River, Camp Creek, Sale River, Kimberley Coastal Camp, Wyndham, Kununurra and once at Argyle Diamond Mine.  Seen in mangroves at Broome.
