Photoplotting Services has been providing computer-aided Design, Drafting and Gerber Photoplotting facilities to the Electronics Industry in Western Australia since 1987. However, we no longer offer an in-house Photoplotting facility.
Our expertise in the area of Printed Circuit Board design streches back more than 20 years however, to the days when hand-taped artworks were the standard. Since the advent of cost effective PC-based software in the mid-1980's, we have kept pace with the ever-increasing complexity of electronic designs and currently use the latest versions of Protel PCB and Schematic capture software.
We have worked in close alliance with the local Printed Circuit Board manufacturing industry, and for several years were situated in the premises of the largest PCB supply house in Western Australia. In this capacity, we provided production-ready phototools for all types of circuit boards up to 12 layers, as well as a PCB design service. As a result of this experience, we are well placed to understand the special problems associated with PCB designs in order to ensure maximum manufacturability, a factor which is often overlooked by electronics designers who prefer to do their own PCB layouts. Despite the excellent facilities which modern CAD software incorporates, practical experience doesn't come with the software (regardless of what their marketing departments would have you believe). Having the latest garage equipment doesn't make one a mechanic, after all. We have the experience, and this is ultimately reflected in a lower unit cost of finished boards, and lower reject rate due to minimisation of built-in problems.
With the ever-increasing use of Surface Mount Technology and automatic placement of components, it is often necessary to be aware of the specific requirements of your chosen Assembly House to avoid unnecessary problems. We establish these requirements as a normal part of the design sequence.
