| Land, Love and Life...
Raised on an outback sheep station, the happy survivor of an itinerant
life, Lynn Hazelton was a longtime member of Fremantle’s anarchic
community of artists before moving to the Kimberley. It is here that she
recorded a swag of sparkling, lyrical songs for her debut album Living
Water. Lynn’s songwriting is influenced by her skirmishes with love
and her childhood at the edge of Australia’s central desert. From One
Kiss to Under Red Sky, her passion for love, life, the bush
and its people are reflected in her music.
Described as folk-rock with a hint of country, the earthy sensuality
of Lynn’s voice combined with a funky urban attitude makes for a fresh
contemporary style The Fremantle Arts Review praised her storytelling abilities
by likening ‘Hazelton’s outback splendour’ to ‘Paul Kelly’s suburban culture’.
Mastered at EMI Studios 301, with back-up vocals from former Dugites
singer Lynda Nutter and blistering guitar from Martin Jenner and David
Hyams, Living Water spent four weeks at number two on the Perth
charts.
Before her solo career, Lynn spent over five years with the nationally
acclaimed acapella group Hammer & Tongues. The group were regular
performers at music festivals throughout Australia and made several guest
appearances on television. Their album Voices Abreast was distributed
nationally through the ABC and received extensive radio airplay.

Back to the city...
Two years later and after plenty of writing, Lynn Hazelton has
started work on her second album with a little help from her friends Desert
Child, a tight and versatile guitar/ bass duo.
The popularity of Living Water is still evident from the steady
sales of repressings, but the new material marks her move back to the city.
Displaying her ability as a prolific and versatile songwriter, Lynn’s next
album combines the spectrum of emotions and life experiences with a raw,
city inspired folk sound.
As a performer Lynn’s accomplishments include two very successful CD
launches in Broome and Perth, several Australian tours, supports for The
Cruel Sea, Tiddas, Christy Moore, Muta Baruka and Luka Bloom,
television guest spots and many in store appearances. Lynn’s dynamic performance,
and earthy rapport with the audience has won over many fans, while her
lengthy song catalogue ensures something new at every gig.
Having moved back from Broome early last year, 1997 saw Lynn re-establish
her popular live shows in the city while generating demand from many Perth
festival and event organisers.
Lynn is very flexible in her musical pursuits, working with a wide range
of professional musicians to suit most situations or markets. With plenty
of experience stored away in her guitar case, Lynn is focused on the big
picture and plans to take her performances and recordings overseas from
mid 1998, starting with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s famous Spiegeltent
in August. |
