A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAMME
1. Use a constructivist approach for students to understand the need
for a classification system for living things.
2. Classify animals as Vertebrates or Invertebrates.
Specialise in Vertebrates and learn to classify as: Mammal,
Reptile
Amphibian
Bird or Fish
3. Study the features of each group and reinforce with written
activities, charts, games and C.D.s.
4. In Science lessons study endangered Western Australian animals
in relation to their status before they were endangered, the
reasons for their endangered status, factors which may improve
this status in the future.
5. Each student specialises in researching one endangered animal
using books, CD's, the Internet, CALM publications, Zoo
publications, booklets and cards
6. Each student extends their work into a cross curricular
presentation.
7. Classwork extends from Science to all subject areas using Multiple
Intelligence theory e.g.
- Verbal/Linguistic - e.g. Oral Language 'What Am I" , Reading
series, Library bulk loan collections, story writing, plays, seminar
presentation, assemblies etc.
- Visual/Spatial - e.g. clay model, paintings dioramas:
